Wikimedia & Education enthusiasts,
The Wikipedia & Education User Group is seeking a new host for the EduWiki
Conference in light of the recent withdrawal of Wikimedia Rwanda as host
(see below). Given the timing considerations, we've decided we will push
off the conference until early 2025. But we'd like to start planning now!
If your affiliate is interested in serving as host for the conference, we
are currently accepting bids for the conference location. To express your
interest, please fill out this form by April 1:

Ensuring we can secure visas for our diverse community is of top priority
for us as conference organizers. So please make sure you've investigated
the visa situation in your country, especially for those coming from
Sub-Saharan Africa, South and Southeast Asia, and South and Latin America.
Please also ensure your group has the capacity to host an international
conference of 100-125 people in (ideally) February/March/April 2025. Since
the last two conferences have been hosted by our wonderful friends at the
Basque Wikimedians and Wikimedia Serbia, we'll give preference to bids
coming from outside of Europe, so we can move the location around.
Again, to express your interest in hosting, please fill out this form by
end of day on April 1, 2024:

On behalf of the Wikipedia & Education User Group,
I'd like to thank you
and the rest of the team at Wikimedia Rwanda for your partnership in
starting to plan the EduWiki Conference. We're sorry to not be able to host
in in Kigali, but we very much understand your group's reasoning, and wish
you all the best in your projects! We hope to host the conference in Kigali
at some point in the future.
We'll be opening up a bidding process for a new host for EduWiki
Conference, which we now plan to hold in early 2025. I'll send a separate
email about that shortly!

Dear Education User Group and WMF Grants Team,
Wikimedia Rwanda wants to inform you about our decision to step down as
the main host of the EduWiki Conference 2024.
This decision aligns with our current strategic priorities, which heavily
focus on two cross-border projects and eLearning Africa Side Event
involvement. These initiatives require significant attention and resources
to ensure our organisational growth.
While acknowledging the vital role the EduWiki Conference plays in
fostering collaboration and knowledge sharing within the education
community, it's best for all parties involved if we dedicate ourselves
fully to our existing commitments.
We understand this decision may cause inconvenience and sincerely
apologize for any disruption. We appreciate your understanding and hope to
host the EduWiki Conference again in the future, once our current projects
reach completion.
In the meantime, we remain dedicated to actively participating in and
supporting the conference's success in any way possible
