Hi all -
My colleague Brett and I (cc'd) are interested in exploring capacity-building among professional associations, for instance, engaging and encouraging both academic and professional organizations to share professional expertise / knowledge in Wikipedia.
Does anyone know of existing initiatives already attempting to do this kind of work (or something similar?? Either at the level of the individual professional organization or at a broader level of trying to bring together multiple associations/organizations together to encourage Wikimedia engagement.
Feel free to respond off-list or on. Thanks!

AfAIK, WikiEd Foundation is doing a lot of work with academics, and specifically with professional associations, so reaching out to LiAnna or Jami would be best. Unless you meant outside the US / Canada...?

Thanks everyone for the replies (both on and off list) - we've had a great response which is a wonderful reminder of the generosity of this community. As a review, we are particularly interested in identifying professional associations that have engaged their members in education and contribution to any Wikipedia projects.
We are NOT limiting our search to U.S. and Canada, (or to academic/educational organizations) but hope to find out more about ANY professional organization doing this type of work (or that has previously done it).
One our first goals is simple - to establish a database of these organizations, with corresponding information (e.g. name of association, types of activities they have engaged in related to Wikimedia, any web presence establishing their work, contact person etc.). To that end, we are sharing the following google spreadsheet.

Please add an organization if you do not see if represented already. Thank you very much for your interest and help in this endeavor!

Hi, I'm Sridhar G from Tamil Wikipedia, Answer of your question is No, but this might related to your question,
Our State govt initiated workshop for School teachers through out the state on 2017. By end of the event more than 7000 articles were created.
After that we are conducting some events for teachers and professors and Students (Wikisource) occasionally.
We are planning to conduct an event for B.Ed professors in Nagapattinam in May 2023.
Thanks.

Hi, I am Ngozi Perpetua Osuchukwu from.Wikimedia User Group Nigeria/Anambra Network. Yes, I and my colleague started buulding the capacities of Librarians (Nigerian Library Association, Anambra State Chapter) on Wikipedia to enable them join the #1Lib1Ref campaign in 2020. Later in 2022, we received fund from Wikimedia Nigeria to continue the training. Currently, we have started the building and improving skills of the members of the Association for the 2023 activity. This is self sponsored again. Learning has been taking place. Many of them have joined the Nigeria Group, winning contests, coordinating hubs and communities. It keeps getting better. Thank you. Best regards, Ngozi Sent from Yahoo Mail on Android
