Javiera Atenas is an Information Scientist with a PhD in Education and Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy in UK (Advance HE). She is a senior lecturer in learning and teaching enhancement at the University of Suffolk, and education lead of the Latin American initiative for open data. Her research is focused in two main areas: the development of critical data literacy in HE grounded on the concept of ethics as a method and also, in promoting the adoption of elements of data agency, ethics and privacy in open education and digital education policies for the HE sector.
She is a co-founder of the Open Education Policy Lab, a member of the UNESCO OER dynamic coalition and of the implementation working group at Open Data Charter, a member of the European Open Education Policy Forum and board of the Open Education Working Group, Open Knowledge International. Also, she is a member of the committee for recognition and enhancement of teaching skills for the Italian National Evaluation Agency for Universities (ANVUR).
