Hello Programs & Events Dashboard users community!
The Programs & Events Dashboard has proven itself to be a key tool for many community organizers, including Program Leaders that work in the fields of education, GLAM, edit-a-thons, and in Affiliates.
As this tool matures, it is becoming necessary to make sure that it has the community support it needs. One of the aspects of this is to formalize a group of Dashboard Admins that can help the community by providing it with basic support when needed.
We are therefore calling for volunteers that want to participate in this field. Their expected responsibilities will cover the following:
-
Providing support to users and Affiliates -
Monitoring & reporting on the use of the Dashboard
Dashboard Admins, like many other roles in the the Wikimedia community will be required to sign a Non-disclosure Agreement (NDA) with the Wikimedia Foundation, in order to ensure that data privacy policies are respected by all.
Ideally, we want to cover all “major” languages, as well as all the languages that actively use the P&E Dashboard.
All Admins will be required to take a (short) online training [1] on how to be Admins, besides demonstrating knowledge on how to use the Dashboard.
The selection process will be as follows:
1.
Sign up to indicate your interest 2.
Take the online training [1] 3.
A selection committee composed of Vahid Masrour and Sage Ross will select the first cohort of Admins.

Best Regards,
Vahid.

Hi Vahid,
Thanks for this email. However, I have two concerns
1. Can a term other than "dashboard admin" be used to describe this role? The term "admin" has other uses already, and I am concerned about the potential for confusion, including among people who are communicating in English as a second language. Also, with the NDA requirement this position sounds more like a functionary role than an admin role, which I think is another reason for using a term other than "dashboard admin". Perhaps "dashboard functionary" or "dashboard technical support specialist" would be clearer. What do you think?
2. I am also concerned about adding yet more work to the already significant load that is being carried by volunteers. Given that WMF has ample financial resources to address an incremental increase in support needs, I think that WMF should be capable of handling support requests and generating reports for the Dashboard without asking volunteers to increase the already considerable scope of our work.
Thank you,
Hi Vahid,
I'm already an admin and am helping when I can. Please let me know if anything else is necessary.
Best, Shani.

Hey Shani!
The procedure will be the same for those that already are "informal" Admins. The key point for that group is of course to sign the NDA, since they've proven they know their way around the Dashboard. As i'm sure you understand, there should still be a process of requesting adminship for transparency reasons.
