Dear Friends:
Here’s a link to the lecture given at the very beginning of the Wikipedia
in Education Project in Uruguay, meant for an audience mainly consisting of
teachers with a very vague understanding about Wikipedia and the Wikimedia
Foundation. It was given in November of 2012, and it’s interesting to note
how some things have changed since then, with the Foundation having new
projects, and with Uruguay involved with the foundation and its projects.
There’s now an Uruguayan Chapter, and we believe that we have changed in
large degree the perception teachers have of Wikipedia.
I now share the link with you because I have added English subtitles to it,
so the lecture can be employed, if it’s considered useful, in other areas,
or to have ideas borrowed from it. Although it has been some time since it
was given, and as I stated before some things have changed since then, I
believe it’s useful, since I consider some of its observations to be
timeless.
I would very much like for you to see it, and to hear some comments about
it from you.
On another note, I have presented two projects aimed at encouraging the use
of Wikipedia in education in my country, I hope to have some news about
their approval soon.
Sadly I won’t be able to attend Wikimania because of work related duties, I
am currently involved in a governmental project that is going to give out
tablets with Internet connectivity to the low income senior citizens of the
country, with the goal of improving their social and family inclusion. I
will relate more about it in the future, as I believe that it might have a
lot of points in common with the use of Wikipedia, for example since many
retirees have a lot of knowledge to share once removed from the work life.
Here’s the link to the lecture:

All the best,
