Hi all,
As some of you might know, we are planning to start a small Education Program pilot at two universities in Cairo this upcoming semester. In order to make the process transparent, I published the first draft of our planning document on the outreach wiki:
http://outreach.wikimedia.org/wiki/Cairo_Pilot_program_plan
I invite you to take a look at the document and to ask questions and give feedback on the discussion page. I started to answer the first questions from members of the Arabic Wikipedia community in a FAQ section at the end of the document.
All kind of feedback is highly appreciated,
Frank
Hi Frank,
thank you to let us know and I will keep fingers cross.
I am just closing one semester cooperation with Faculty of Science at Charles University in Prague for Czech Wikipedia and I am planning wrote comprehensive report about my activity/cooperation with them in (+-) one week. So maybe you will be able take some advices from it. I will let you know soon about when will be published. First results suggested that our way is really appreciate by students/teacher however time consuming for "ambassador".
Best regards,
Petr aka Chmee2

Hi Frank,
This is a very good document and it looks like all elements of the plan have been well considered. Was there a similar document for the North American programmes? Or if not, what differences are there (if any) between this programme and previous ones run in the Americas (particularly previous efforts in Canada)?
Cheers, Craig Franklin

Hi Craig,
Yes, there was a similar document for the U.S. (Public Policy Initiative). In May 2010, we published our planning document on the outreach wiki in order to achieve transparency:
http://outreach.wikimedia.org/wiki/Public_Policy_Initiative_project_details
The Education Program in the U.S. and Canada was a continuation of the Public Policy Initiative and is based on our learning points documented here:
http://outreach.wikimedia.org/wiki/Public_Policy_Initiative_Learning_Points
The Cairo Pilot is mainly based on the learning points from the pilot in Pune and I've summarized the main differences between the two pilots here:
http://outreach.wikimedia.org/wiki/Comparing_the_Pune_and_the_Cairo_Pilot_%E...
Please let me know if you have any further questions,
Frank

Hi Frank and everybody here,
how I promised, I prepared report about my cooperation with Charles University in Prague. I made some "not-polished" version on this link (http://cs.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedie:WikiProjekt_Chr%C3%A1n%C4%9Bn%C3%A1_%...). Sorry for horrible (!) English but I am not native speaker and I am now little bit in time press with my real work and other activities on Wiki :) Hopefully, somebody else will be polished this "manuscript", that's wiki! :)
Hoverer, feel free copy/paste somewhere on Meta or Outreach Wiki and polished my English. It will be really welcome. I was not sure about right place where I had to hang this report.
In the case of any future questions/comments or issues, feel free to contact me by this email or use my discussion page on cs.wiki.
Regards,
Petr aka Chmee2

Petr,
I've read your report and looked at some of the students' articles on the Czech Wikipedia and I have to admit that I am highly impressed by your work. The quality of the articles written by the students is very high. Also the amount and the quality of pictures is impressive. It is great to see that one of the articles has passed successfully through the good article nomination process.
I am also very impressed by the quality of the report. It's great that you conducted a survey among the students and I was happy to see so many green fields in the table (for those who didn't read the report: green means a positive result). I encourage everybody on this list to take a look at the document linked below -- the report gives a very lively picture of how the program was designed and what the outcome was.
Thank you for all the hard work that you've put into this. I wish you all the best for the next semester!
Frank
