Hi Mathias, I've read the terms of your proposal and they seem very reasonable to me.
I think it would be a good idea to have Wikikids as a sister project. There really exist paper enciclopedies for children and they are so different than the geeneral ones. It would really be a good resource for schools (as a
In catalan, we have eduwiki available: http://www.eduwiki.cat http://www.eduwiki.cat/ which could be a good source for the future catalan wikikids.
Good luck with your project!
Thanks! However it should not be considered as *my* project, especially when it's a matter of opening some Wikikids in new languages! :-) I've recently translated in English "Documentation and Vikidia - the Freinet ideas with the internet and the wikis", a text that was written by someone that have been working with Célestin Freinet and was involved in the documentary (printed) resources of his pedagogical movement: https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikikids:Documentation_and_Vikidia (It was translated in Spanish before, you will find the link on the page)

Hi, We've been refining some points of the Wikikids <http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikikids> proposal for a new Wikimedia Foundation Sister Project<http://fr.vikidia.org>. We have fixed and added some points on Wikikids/For children or by children ? <http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikikids/For_children_or_by_children_%3F> and Wikikids/Questions and answers <http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikikids/Questions_and_answers> Current step must be to work on the Wikikids#Project plan and potential schedule for the proposal <http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikikids#Project_plan_and_potential_schedule_for_the_proposal>, and within it, establishing the basic principles and rules for the wikis to open or adopt, and set up a requests for comment. Beside the "knowledge resource" benefit of such a project, it would certainly also expand the opportunities for the wiki education programs. I mean it can enable to reach younger pupils, that will learn not only from the content of such a Wikikids and about its functioning, but by the way about the functioning of a resource they will use extensively few years later: Wikipedia :-) . Indeed, this proposal critically needs your remarks, questions, criticisms, support (#People interested) and help/involvement if you think it deserves it! -- Mathias Damour 49 rue Carnot F-74000 Annecy 00 33 (0)4 57 09 10 56 00 33 (0)6 27 13 65 51 mathias.damour@laposte.net <mailto:mathias.damour@laposte.net> http://fr.vikidia.org/wiki/Utilisateur:Astirmays
