I have never seen a user group that required your address, email, phone number, etc. to join. They don't say why you have to provide personal information in order to participate, or how your information will be used.

Hi fellow wikipedians,
I've been invited on my meta talk page to formally join the Wikipedia & Education user group and I'm really keen to do so but i'm not comfortable to give away personal information to a google document ?
Is there an alternative to formally join ?
regards to all,
