Dear Wikimedia & Education community,
I hope this finds you well, safe and healthy! This crisis has been
challenging us all personally and professionally in many different ways,
and you all have our solidarity and support.
Over the last couple weeks the Education Team has been staying busy
creating new #EduWiki challenges and lesson plans, and working on
supporting the UNESCO Global Education Coalition. Not only that, but we
joined the World Scouts for their emergency "Jamboree on the Internet"
April 3-5 https://www.jotajoti.info. We hosted 2 webinars and took part in
"Joti Live." You can see the "Joti Live" episode with our very own Sailesh
Patnaik here:
https://www.facebook.com/WOSM.OMMS/videos/joti-live-show-4/2606615196249791/
or https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZFhI5ufCDi0. Through this event we
engaged over 21k youth around the world!
The original Joti event will be held in October this year, and we will
start engaging the community soon for their ideas on how we can play an
even bigger role at that time. We want to get our whole Wikimedia &
Education community involved!
Now, for the main reason I'm writing to you today. We are hoping those of
you with time and energy can help us support teachers, guardians, and
students with activities that help students learn with the Wikimedia
projects. You can help by translating and sharing this week's #EduWiki
challenges and lesson plans in your networks, or by creating your own and
sharing them with us. You can find everything you need you need at this
link:
https://outreach.wikimedia.org/wiki/Education/COVID-19_response/Comms_toolk…
You can create your own and share them with us here
https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSeC574xkmZjWwizs-3qMf0VKPoz8SszV-R…
.
Finally, don't forget to let us know what your community is doing to
support education during this time https://forms.gle/z3Hj4n5NX3wphamk6.
If you have questions or other ideas on ways we can support learners let us
know at education(a)wikimedia.org or join us at the next office hours event
on April 23 from 12:30-13:30 UTC.
sincerely,

Dear Wikimedia & Education community,
I hope this email finds you safe and healthy. We wanted to update you on
where we are with the COVID-19 action plan that we shared with you before,
how you can share your own responses with us so that we can amplify your
work, and how you can help support our efforts.
This week, the Wikimedia Foundation joined UNESCO's Global Education
Coalition for COVID-19
https://en.unesco.org/covid19/globaleducationcoalition. If you have time,
view Katherine Maher's video introducing our membership and give it a like
or a share: https://youtu.be/4RL0bQw4n0s
We also initiated a soft launch of the #EduWiki challenge on Facebook and
Twitter, and starting next week, we're asking you to support this
initiative. What can you do? Every Friday we're going to update this
communications tool-kit:
https://outreach.wikimedia.org/wiki/Education/COVID-19_response/Comms_toolk…
In the tool-kit you will find:
1) All the #EduWiki challenges for the week and corresponding graphics
2) Our M-F post schedule
3) Other messages about Wikimedia, Education & COVID-19
You can:
1) *Translate, localize, and share any and all of the #EduWiki challenges
in your social media accounts and other relevant channels.* We want to
reach teachers, parents and students who are looking for fun and engaging
educational activities they can do at home. The communications tool-kit
will be updated every week. The graphics will be added to Commons, and you
can edit the svg files using any image editing software that you like.
2) *Share your ideas for new #EduWiki challenges, or lesson plans that use
the Wikimedia projects with us so that we can add them to our post
schedule. *For now you can send them to education(a)wikimedia.org with the
subject line "Lesson plan ideas." We're putting together a form that will
make it easier, and we'll share it with you next week.
3) *Share the other activities your community is doing to mitigate the
impact of COVID-19 school closures. *You can use this form to share your
activities: https://forms.gle/g2mqLwpPr9gjvwgA7 and we will include them on
ur dedicated page for COVID-19 on Outreach Wiki:
https://outreach.wikimedia.org/wiki/Education/COVID-19_response
Thank you for all that you do! We're so proud to be a part of this
community. Reach out if you have any questions.
wishing you all the best in this crazy time,
The Education Team
