Hi all, We didn't realize the first time suggested was overlapping with Wiki Women Lunch. We have a new time and place now: 14.30-15.15 (could even end at 15.00), in room 20 in the school. Shani, thank you for suggesting a time, but I think we need to have it before the closing speech, as afterwards, all venues will probably be cleaned up and dismantled. We hope most of you can come! Tool demos for program leaders tomorrow at Wikimania

Hey program leaders! We are trying to organize an impromptu tool demo here at Wikimania tomorrow! (Apologies for the short notice.) Come to the community village at the collaborative space at the beginning of lunch (12-1pm). If the meeting space is available below the collaborative space, we'll move downstairs. We will explore some useful tools for program leaders that are available now (and some soon to be more widely released). For those not attending, we can circulate notes and links afterwards. [Education] Open Educational Ressources (OER): Mapping OER is on Meta

Hi everyone, we wanted to let you know, that we put up a site on Meta Wiki for our Project "Mapping OER * – *creating free educational material together", which started in April 2015 and ended this February. In 2015 we secured the Federal Ministry of Education and Research as a highly prestigious partner for this pilot project and thus took a step forward in establishing Wikipedia’s participatory principle in the German education system and in all areas of life-long learning. The Mapping OER project was about initiating innovation processes in various areas of education by securing a wider network of actors across different disciplines and ensuring practical application. The project was therefore characterized by two key elements: a multi-stakeholder approach and open innovation, in line with WMDE’s working methods and basic principles. Brazilian Wikipedia Science Conference - CCBWIKI

Hello everyone! The Wikimedia Brazilian Group of Education and Research[1] will host on October 13th and 14th in Rio de Janeiro the "1st Brazilian Wikipedia Science Conference" This event aims to bring together students, teachers and researchers with projects and publications about Wikipedia, other Wikimedia projects and their dynamics. We are almost done and soon we will announce our official website and call for papers. Articles and poster will be accepted. The Wikimedia Foundation has validated our logo [2] and the use of the Wikipedia brand in the event name. We are using as inspiration the events organized by Wikimedia UK[3] and OpenSym[4]. We are trying to bring to Brazil some important keynotes from our movement. If someone from this list is interested in coming to visit us, let's keep in touch! That event is under organization in a very organic and experimental way, with no funding from WMF to see the impact and interest from the local academic community. Based on the results and impacts we will try to do something bigger in 2017. All the content produced during the event will be published in CC licenses (photos, videos, interviews, publications). Invitation to “Engaging local Wikipedians” Workshop at Wikimania

Hello! Wikimania is around the corner and many people looking forward to the wide range of topics. Following the general idea of sharing knowledge about best practices, the Volunteer Support Department of Wikimedia Deutschland warmly invites you to the workshop “Engaging local Wikipedians”. The Chapter supports several groups in Germany with the installation, funding, and support of local spaces where community members can sozialize, write articles, plan projects, share knowledge, start cooperations, teach new editors, and so one. These are places where Wikipedians have a face. Several local groups will hold lightning talks about their activities. Further, a study by Wikimedia Deutschland on the local spaces will be presented. Nevertheless, getting local Wikipedians together does not only work in actual rooms but in several other ways, fitting to the respective needs of the communities and general conditions. One solution for example is the Kumusha Bus that educates several communities in Africa about the Open Movement. Of course, organizing student groups for Wikipedia in several cities is another one. What is your story? We warmly invite you to share your experiences in this workshop with a lightning talk of max. five minutes or participation in the discussion. Learning from each other is the main goal of this workshop.
