I had the video stall on me so clicked for the YouTube "unofficial" mirror. After the video YouTube runs ads for a number of clips entitled "Wikipedia sucks". Is there somewhere else the video can be put that it isn't going to be followed by stuff like this?
Brian.

Being able to post "X sucks" is our god-given right as internet citizens.

I don't disagree with that. I'm asking can we use a mirror that doesn't have that the instant after ours finishes? I even watched a couple of them.
I appreciate video sucks up bandwidth like inhaling golfballs through a hosepipe, and as a result we need a backup that uses Akaimi (sp?) or similar. The comments on the YouTube video are almost all positive, so there doesn't really seem to be much desire to say "Wikipedia sucks" among the viewers. It is the relevance algorithm that is associating the videos in a way that isn't good.
Let me guess... Fall back to tried principles, more speech is better. Get making "Wikipedia rocks!" videos to go up alongside Jimbo's on YouTube. :)
Oh, and the eyes bit bugged me too.
Brian.

Actually the amount of bandwidth that video is using currently is not visible at all in the statistics, so that's certainly not a problem at this point.
ive uploaded the video to DotSub. this allows people to add transcriptions and subtitles/close captioning to the films meaning that it can be internationalized into any language. The videos at http://dotsub.com/films/wikimedia2007/index.php and currently has the option of English, English with subtitles and a French translation. I hope to also put up the Italian and Dutch translations today but anyone can do it ;-). This mirror is ad free and doesnt come up with the "Wikipedia Sucks" bits either. Hopefully this is better than the Youtube version.
Thanks
Mark

This is great. A subtitled version is a great addition. I certainly prefer this to the YouTube one.

okay its now in Dutch and Italian as well. Would do lots of other languages but that's all the translations there are. So its now available in Dutch, English, French and Italian. Hopefully more to come when the translations have been done on Meta.
Link is http://dotsub.com/films/wikimedia2007/index.php
From there you can select the language to watch from the drop down box to
the left of the pic and can also translate the film into other languages using the right hand box.
Maybe someone could put a link to this on the fund raising pagehttp://wikimediafoundation.org/donate/2007/psa/??? (Hint Brion!!)
Thanks
Mark
It is *fabulous*. Thanks so much for those who made translations possible !
