As a UK media contact for Wikimedia, so I get all sorts of stuff in my email. One I just got was for a demonstration/picket to be held in London soon, from the group protesting. Let's assume I'm unable to make it to cover it myself ... is there anywhere to put these things for those who may be interested in going out with a notepad and camera?
(I asked on the Water Cooler, but I have no idea if anyone is reading it.)

I would make a page on Wikinews with subpages for each region, people can then watch the regions they can get to (what size each region is is negotiable) and when it appears on their watchlist, off they go. It would be an excellent way of getting good articles.

Yes, I have been thinking the same thing for some time; such pages would be very useful, both for people who want to report coming events and for us to get good articles and photos.

I have created a rough draft of such a system: http://en.wikinews.org/wiki/Wikinews:Upcoming_events
All comments / improvements are welcome.

Good, I'll copy the event there!

Except it's not clear at all. Do I cut and paste an event? Do I edit the subpage?
What I want to do is cut'n'paste the press release as emailed to me.
(You can be sure that as organisations seeking publicity find this queue, they'll just do that - they certainly won't learn a query syntax.)

Right, I have tried to make it user-friendly, it seems I have failed :) I'm going to redesign and simplify it.

Here is a better version: http://en.wikinews.org/wiki/Wikinews:Upcoming_events We'll see with time if it works.

I've added the event that inspired me to ask the question :-) Note that's pretty much the original email cut'n'pasted.
