Just because Portuguese Wikipedia also closed uploads recently, adopting
the same policy than the Spanish Wikipedia.
Nice that everybody was informed ...
Again: What do you think Commons was created for?
ps. 6 days left and I start shooting to people
Note to Foundation-L: Artur is proposing to block all es: and pt: contributors to Commons to save Commons admin work. That this goes against the actual purpose of Commons as a service project to other Wikimedia projects seems to have escaped him. Can someone rein him in?

Notice to Foundation-L, David must have lost his meds again and is trolling.
No one is seriously proposing anything of the sort.
If david continues trolling on the commons list he is going to get asked to unsubscribe.

Artur has posted this for the second time, apparently in all seriousness.

I'm not trolling; I'm being appalled at the attitude of Commons admins to the projects that are supposed to be using Commons, particularly es: and pt: for which Commons is their only image store.

David, you're generalizing. Say "some Commons admins" if you wish, but don't paint everyone with the same brush.
In addition, there's definitely a problem if projects decide to close local uploads and redirect everybody to commons and: 1) They don't warn Commons beforehand. 2) At least some of their admins don't apply for adminship on Commons.
We just cannot cope with languages we don't speak.

The whole point is to be a service project. All wikis that don't allow non-free images were ultimately supposed to use Commons.
If you're saying Commons really can't handle that, then the thing that's seriously wrong is at the Commons end.

Sure always has been. Commons and the wikis that use images on commons have different objectives different aims and different people. You should know about the problems at en.pedia Common's doesn't have anywhere near en.pedia's resources.
