Hello all!
Next Thursday's office hours will feature Véronique Kessler, the Foundation's Chief Financial Officer. If you don't know Naoko, you can get to know her at http://wikimediafoundation.org/wiki/V%C3%A9ronique_Kessler.
Office hours on Thursday are from 2100 to 2200 UTC (3:00 PM - 4:00 PM PDT).
If you do not have an IRC client, there are two ways you can come chat using a web browser: First is using the Wikizine chat gateway at http://chatwikizine.memebot.com/cgi-bin/cgiirc/irc.cgi. Type a nickname, select irc.freenode.net from the top menu and #wikimedia-office from the following menu, then login to join.
Also, you can access Freenode by going to http://webchat.freenode.net/, typing in the nickname of your choice and choosing wikimedia-office as the channel. You may be prompted to click through a security warning. It should be all right.
Please feel free to forward (and translate!) this email to any other relevant email lists you happen to be on. Also note, this is Veronique's first foray into IRC, so lets show her how welcoming we can be! :-)

Forgive my poor math (in addition to my poor self-proofreading skills) but 3:00 PM Pacific time is actually 2300 and not 2100. Office hours are in 1:45 hours.

I hope my inability to send these out without one single mistake is amply entertaining. The day is Friday (as indicated in the subject and the second paragraph), not Thursday (as carelessly left in the first line).

Mike Godwin's excellent and should have his own TV show. And I really value the Office Hours idea, it's a great way for the community to interact with the WMF.
I'd just like to make the point though, hoping not to come across as too critical, that Mike will have done office hours duty three times recently after today.
It would be great if someone else can be persuaded to have a go for next time. I certainly have a few things I would like to ask which Mike would not be best placed to answer.

I was there when Cary asked for someone to do it and Mike was the only volunteer. I suspect the rest of the staff think they are too boring and nobody would want to talk to them. If you suggest a specific person that you would be interested in asking questions of then Cary might stand a chance of getting them to agree to it.

Oh, it's a shame if the staff don't feel there's much interest. The ones I've attended don't get many folk in terms of numbers but there always seems to be enough questions to keep an interesting discussion going for an hour.
I'd like Tim Starling to do one; I have some questions about the impact of the Strategy process on Mediawiki.

Sadly, because of a misunderstanding on my part, today's office hours were postponed until another to be decided date and time.
As far as Tim is concerned, I'll ask him and tell him that there's some interest (if he doesn't see it here first!)

It could also be a idea to ask Danese Cooper to come by on IRC for a hour. But I would like it when Tim Starling would come by also... Yes he is always on IRC but almost always busy :)

what about having (for once) office hour with one or two board members? Perhaps the community selected members? I can imagine it would be interesting to have a chat about what the board is currently doing and up to.

As interesting as Mike is, this will be the fourth time (judging by http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/IRC_office_hours, which I'm assuming is up-to-date) that we've heard from him. Could we hear from some other staff members soon? It seems Erik hasn't answered questions once. Frank, who I know is doing a lot of fantastic and little-known work, has only appeared once. Sue has only appeared once, and that was nearly a year ago. I think Danese has now been in her job long enough for it not to be /too/ unfair to inflict us on her.
Thanks Thomas. I'm happy to do office hours -- Cary can schedule me in any time I'm free, via James. (I can probably do it pre-Wikimania, I think.)
