Maybe but at the moment it isn't. On the other hand there probably are wikipedia editors in Iraq and I suspect we had an article on Cyclone Sidr before most news companies became aware of it.

3am on November 15th, split from the article on the cyclone season the day after it hit Cat 4.
I think maybe the NYT editor think Wikinews is a part of Wikipedia because he wrote: "Google News and Wikipedia don't have bureaux in Baghdad, or anywhere else" ?
If this is true, then I think he should do more study?
