Dear all,
At *Ikusgela*, the OER video creation project for the Basque Wikipedia, we are very excited. We have just published our 100th video.
You can see the front page ofthe project https://eu.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atari:Hezkuntza/Ikusgelato see an overall view of what we have done. We have created videos about philosophy, economics, Basque culture, world literature, environment, digital skills, history and eight curiosities. The videos are embedded in more than 420 articles of the Basque Wikipedia.
Between them, there are almost 300 subtitles. There are subtitles in Basque, English, Spanish, Bengali, Arabic, French, Catalan, Slovenian, Gaelic, Italian, Japanese, Mapuche, Portuguese, Russian, Hausa, Tarifite, Greek, Wolof... Here you can make a subtitle https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:WikiProject_Subtitling_Ikusgela in your language. We have also dubbed some videos https://ca.wikipedia.org/wiki/Portal:Ikusgela_en_catal%C3%A0 into Catalan with the help of WikiCred.
In these two years of experience, we have realized that there are several areas where improvements can be made to make the experience of working with videos better. The upload to Commons is still demanding; unfortunately, we cannot see the real impact of this project, since the videos in Wikipedia do not have a view counter; you cannot put hyperlinks in the subtitles; the videos do not support multiple audio tracks; the frame of the Commons front page is random, which means that when we have a video as the first element in an article, the image of that article is out of control.
We will continue to create more videos in Basque, the project is having good feedback. We would like to make more collaborations (creating subtitles, dubbing the videos or creating videos natively in more than one language).
Who is up for it?
Ander
