Dear Wikimedians, colleagues, and friends,
This is a reminder for the open call for the Conference and Events Funds https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Grants:Conference [1] started September 1 with a submission deadline of September 27, 2021.
Since Chen Almog, the Program Officer for Conference & Events Funds, is on leave, Tanveer Hasan (copied) and I will support the upcoming round.
Funding for the Conference and Events Funds is generally awarded to three broad categories of movement events: thematic events, national and regional conferences, and growth events focused on innovative ideas or on movement growth.
As aligned with the Wikimedia Movement’s strategic direction, we will welcome and prioritize proposals:
- From underrepresented communities https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Community_Engagement/Defining_Emerging_Communities [2] from all parts of the world, that demonstrate growth and capacity building as core goals and outcomes. - That support implementation of the new Wikimedia 2030 Strategy recommendations https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Strategy/Wikimedia_movement/2018-20/Recommendations/Summary. [3] - That consider partnering with affiliates and creating regional/thematic/growth https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Grants:Conference/EventCategories [4] coalitions within the movement. - That include an outreach component by partnering with open knowledge allies. - That welcome and empower new participants and contributors in the Wikimedia movement.
Please note that the majority of events in 2021 will still be mostly or fully remote events https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Grants:Conference/Remote_Event_Guidelines. [5] Following the COVID-19 risk assessment protocol https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Grants:Risk_assessment_during_COVID-19, [6] international travel is still ineligible for funding but some local in-person events are possible.
We are excited to see and learn more about your events! Please develop a proposal https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Grants:Conference/Plan [7] and apply https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Grants:Conference/Apply [8] for our funding by September 27, 2021.
You can find more information and resources on the Conference and Events Funds page https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Grants:Conference_Grants. [1] Please email us at conferencegrants@wikimedia.org if you have any questions or when you submit an application.
All the best,
Davit
