Dear Wikipedia,
I would like to ask you whether it will be possible to reopen the tokipona-Wikipedia. It had been closed for some time and obviously it was founded by fare to early as he tokipona-language is a new one and the number of tokipona-speakers had been much to low at that time. In the meantime the number of tokipona-speaking people increased and the limited response shouldn't be a problem anymore. As the tokipona-wikipedia exists already it should only be a restart of an existing program. This will tokipona give a chance to be used in a well known forum once again. If the response will not be as expected the current status can be reached and will be final.
I will be plesed hearing from you.
Best regards

As I wrote about yesterday on the WikiEN-l, is it really necessary to have languages that are not primary languages of at least a decent sized group of people. Toki Pona is a contructed language that isn't going to enable more to people to edit or read Wikipedia.

I agree with this. New language projects should be created as a way to faciliate the sharing of information. Small constructed languages represent little more then code or encryption, and those by definition are barriers to communications. It would be different if, for some people, Toki Pona was their natural, primary, or only spoken language. In that case, toki pona would be the only method of communication for this hypothetical group of people, and creating a project for them would help to facilitate the sharing of information.
I see no benefit in creating a project which only a small group of people edit and nobody outside that group can read.

Although (like the others below suggest), the Tokipona wikis probably aren't going to be re-opened, you can still contribute to the Tokipona Wikia: http://tokipona.wikia.com/wiki/lipu_lawa.

Also, seeing as the language only has ~ 3 fluent speakers and a few dozen people (total probably <50) who can type it, I don't see this project taking off very much.
What would the gain be?

As far as I remember another major argument against continuing the Toki Pona Wikipedia was the fact that the language's very ability of serving as a vehicle for the full range of encyclopedic content was widely doubted.
Conlangs such as Esperanto or Interlingua were designed to serve as "international auxiliary languages" (IALs) and no matter how outdated one might find the idea itself, hardly anybody doubts the IALs' capability of adequately conveying encyclopedic content. Toki Pona however is not a classic IAL. Frankly, to me it rather seems like some kind of intellectual pastime. I for one very much doubt that it matches with Wikipedia's objectives.

Indeed - I think it's more along the lines of an artlang (artistic language) or a language designed as an intellectual exercise.

Hoi, Tokipona has to comply with the requirements of the language committee first. As far as I am aware, it does not have an ISO-639-3 oode and consequently it will not be considered. Thanks, GerardM
