Good idea. I've made a basic page now at https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Offline_Projects/XOWA. It uses much of the material from the earlier email. I'll add more later, and try to find a suitable place to link it into the https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Offline_Projects/ section.

Are there torrent files for all projects (Wiktionary, Wikisource, etc.)?

The files are for en.wikipedia.org articles only.[1] I also have image thumbnail databases for en.wiktionary.org, en.wikiquote.org, and species.wikimedia.org. I'm waiting on a reply from archive.org to see if I can upload them as well. If I don't hear from them by the end of today, I'll upload them to my google drive, and forward the links.

I'm working on en.wikisource.org, but it may not be ready for a few weeks (it has substantially more images than the others). en.wikiversity.org, en.wikibooks.org and en.wikinews.org are queued for later (in several weeks)

Hi. I am the developer for XOWA -- a free, open-source offline Wikipedia app. XOWA allows a user to have their own copy of a wiki on their hard-drive -- without any internet connection. It works with the latest versions of over 660 database dumps [1], including wikis like English Wikipedia, French Wiktionary, German Wikisource, Wikidata, Wikimedia Commons, etc.. If you have a moment, you can download the app and set up Simple Wikipedia in less than 5 minutes.

I just finished generating a full set of thumbnail images for English Wikipedia. This now makes it possible to have one's own complete offline copy of English Wikipedia as of 2013-11-04. The total size of these image databases are quite large (75 GB), but archive.org was kind enough to host them[2].

I've emailed offline-l, but I am emailing this group because I'd like to reach as wide an audience as possible. In particular, these files will also be distributed by torrent[3], and I'd like to attract as many seeders as possible, especially as torrents should relieve any burden on archive.org's download servers. In addition, future wikis will be distributed by torrent, so more seeders now will facilitate distribution then. I'd greatly appreciate it if you could assist with seeding these files, or forward this news to others who may help seed them.

I think the issue with English Wikipedia is that you can be very technically oriented, and it would still be very difficult to set up the wiki (especially with images). Also, XOWA has a nice benefit of running from any machine with an SD card (whereas you'd have to install apache, php, mysql on the machine)

I'm now undertaking the much larger en.wp dump

I just updated the instructions at http://xowa.sourceforge.net/setup_enwiki.html. There's now an option to download the wiki (by torrent) in addition to importing it.
