It is very very very cool stuff.
Sadly, the main piece of software used in this course (FrameForge 3D
Studio) is only available on Windows and Mac. What's more, the
software isn't even free to use - only the demo is. In fact, all
software apart from the "other useful programs" (GIMP, Audacity) seem
to be only available on Windows/Mac and are not OSS.
This isn't necessarily a criticism. There may not be any free
alternatives (and it is better to provide a free course for what
software is available than provide no course at all). Still, I find it
a little disconcerting that some parts of Wikimedia can only be used
by Windows/Mac users. How important is "freeness" (in all its forms)
to Wikimedia projects?
You can start to write for users on other platforms say Linux, DOS (as I
know there are still many people using DOS) or OS/2 Wrap and for OSS.
It's a free project, isn't it? If you think we should have articles (or
books) for something, just do it. ;)
