I can see how it can attract AND repel volunteers overall, just as we see it attractive
and off-putting to people discussing on this list.

Taking a stand for personal freedom attracts volunteers in support of
free culture, just as supporting scientific consensus opposed by money
in politics attracts those who value accuracy.
