I'll quickly add that I posted both on the user's talk page and on the
provided email a plea to be allowed to use the nick. Both have gone
unanswered. It is possible that the email is no longer active, checked
or plain ignored. (I know I might ignore an email from someone who wants
my nick from a project I was at best mildly involved with 2+ years
previous).

| I am writing about a policy issue in regards to nick usurping on the

| Wikiversity and Wikiquote. I recently attempted to set up a unified log
| in and was told that there was another user on the Commons named
Bstone.
| Seeing that this user was not active on the Commons since 21 November
| 2006 I asked the crats on the Commons if I could usurp the the nick,

| After a short discussion in IRC with a Commons crat, I was told that
| despite the inactivity of this account there exists a Commons policy
| disallowing Usurption as long as an account has ever had any
| contributions. I was urged by some fellow editors and administrators
| that I should bring up this issue on this email list. My apologies if

Note, the user in question not only has useful contributions on Commons,
but on de.wp as well. He has provided an email address, and you're free
to contact him, but I do not believe that soliciting the foundation-l
list is a good way to get your issue regarding SUL on Commons (or de.wp
as well) resolved.
You can still unify your accounts elsewhere, but I suggest you wait
until consensus is made about cross-project name changes that affect the
wikimedia projects as a whole rather than attempt to get a foundation
mailing list override of an issue with Commons policies and practice.
