"hagdarah," from the root "gader," or fence. In other words, when
you define
something, you put a fence around it, defining what is inside and what is out. When
conducting a survey of Wikipedians, you are similarly determining "Who is in"
and "Who is out."
For the purposes of this announcement, "Wikipedian" is actually meant
very loosely, as it's going to be a survey of both readers &
contributors, and there will be questions examining the specific
background, perceptions & motivations of both groups. The survey
should indeed give us a fairly good shot at drawing boundaries and
establishing definitions.
