I am writing on behalf of the UG Wiki Movimento Brasil to share updates
about our board.
Our group members convened at our General Assembly, on November 1st, and
unanimously appointed the following members as our new board:
* Valério Melo, User:Ixocactus, president
* Chico Venancio, User:Chicocvenancio, vice-president
* Lucas Teles, User:Teles, finance director
They will serve for a four-year term, according to our bylaws. All new
board members come from the Northeast Region, one of the most impoverished
areas in Brazil. Regional power decentralization is a major objective in
Wiki Movimento Brasil's Diversity Plan (https://w.wiki/4Kio).
In the occasion of our General Assembly, we also appointed:
* User:Albertoleoncio and User:Vini_175 to the Fiscal Council, and
* User:DarwIn, User:Victor Lopes, User:Friduxa, User:Tetizeraz and
User:TiagoLubiana to the Good Governance Committee.
I take this opportunity to thank Vinicius Siqueira and Célio Costa Filho
with whom I have served on the board from 2017 to 2021. We were honored to
be part of the consolidation of Wiki Movimento Brasil as a thriving
Best of luck to the new board. Thank you for all you do for this Movement.

The Wikimedia Foundation legal team has posted a draft of an updated
conflict of interest policy on Meta-Wiki:
We are collecting feedback on the policy for the next three weeks: today
until 22 November.
The updated policy will replace the current Conflict of Interest Policy for
Board Members, Officers, Executives, and Key Employees. Note: This is
not related to any policies or issues regarding paid/conflict of interest
editing of the projects. It is about conflicts of interest that may arise
in connection with an individual’s executive or Board role at the
In preparing the updated policy, we consulted model conflict of interest
policies, guidance regarding best practices for conflict of interest
policies, outside legal experts on non-profit governance, and the points
raised in the community discussion on conflicts of interest earlier this
We invite you to review the draft policy and leave any feedback you have on
the talk page. In particular, we are interested in identifying any aspects
of the policy where the language or procedure is not clear. We also want to
know if there are any gaps in the policy: are there any conflict of
interest situations that cause you concern and that the policy does not
seem to cover?
The Governance Committee of the Board of Trustees has reviewed the draft
policy, and will review it again following the feedback period. It will
then go before the full Board to be approved and adopted.
Thank you to anyone who takes the time to read the draft policy. Please
leave your feedback on the talk page so that we can best review and
respond to it in an organized manner.
In solidarity and with gratitude,
General Counsel and Transition Team Member

We have published strategies for the Linked Open Data activities around
Wikidata and the Wikibase Ecosystem, and would like to get your feedback on
You can find them at
https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/LinkedOpenData/Strategy2021 and we would
love to hear your feedback and thoughts on the talk page at
These strategies are a thorough update of the 2019 strategy papers for
Wikidata and the Wikibase Ecosystem (
https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikidata/Strategy/2019). The strategy
papers were very helpful for us to clarify where we see Wikidata and the
Wikibase Ecosystem going and have conversations about it with editors,
other chapters and user groups, outside organisations, and within our team.
Over the past months we have looked at everything we have learned from
conversations within the communities, research we have done, and how we and
the world have changed since the first strategy papers were published.
During WikidataCon, we shared the strategy for feedback with the Wikidata
and Wikibase communities, and would now like to open it up for the wider
Movement. We are very much looking forward to your feedback!

Wikipedia Asian Month has started!
WAM is an annual Wikipedia contest focused on the promotion of Asian
content on various language-specific Wikipedias. Each participating
community runs a month-long (November 2011) online edit-a-thon every
November on their language's Wikipedia to create new content or improve
existing articles about Asian topics apart from their own country.
Individuals or groups who made exemplary work in this global campaign will
be sent with postcards from the organisers!
Visit https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_Asian_Month_2021 to know
more how to participate or how your community organise a contest in your
local language Wikipedia!
