Thank you Kirill.
Also from me a warm welcome to the new committee members! Seems like a good
new influx of qualified members. There were many good candidates this time
around.
Also, I'd like to express my sincere thanks to the committee members that
have not been reappointed: Gregory Varnum (who left the committee a little
while ago upon his appointment at the WMF as staff member) and Josh Lim,
who have both served in a very valuable role at this Committee. Thank you
for allt hose hours that you have spent!
Best regards,
Lodewijk
(currently advisor to the Affiliations Committee)

I assume many have muted or are ignoring the "thankspam" thread, but it has
changed topic rather meaningfully, and I think it deserves broader
attention.

Very short answer is "that mailing lists are an awful user experience for
most people". Longer, but still very partial, list at
https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Discourse#What_we.27d_gain_.28user_experien…
I'll add more there at some point, but probably not today.

hi Florence,
Then I was astonished when I discovered that Dariusz, who has been a board

just to clarify this issue: I have been signing the COI pledges/disclosures
over the last 4 years, as the FDC member, and later as a Board member.
Apparently I did not make myself clear that I think it is worthwhile to
consider PUBLIC statements (as proposed in the email I was replying to),
and not statements in general (which we do have). It may have left you with
a reading that I was unaware of the COI policy as a whole; I apologize for
my clumsy phrasing.
best,
dariusz
I think everyone will agree that it's been a pretty eventful month, but
with over a week remaining, I wanted to remind everyone of the list's
monthly 30-post soft limit.
Amusingly, the person requesting that the limit be more strictly enforced
just a few weeks ago is now quite close, themself, while the person singled
out with that request is currently "safe" by a comfortable margin. :)
I don't honestly intend to crack down and start moderating the moment
people hit 30, but I do want everyone to be aware of how quickly some of
these discussions intensify, and maybe slow down a bit.
Thanks,
Austin

If the Board of Trustees was entirely elected by the community would
solve the background check problem, even if those elections remain
technically just nominations which the sitting board can approve or
reject on a case-by-case basis.
The present procedures are antidemocratic and, as we have seen, are
easily subject to abuse by large entities.
