For those of you who are eager to see wikistats udated for the English
Wikipedia: please be patient .
There is currently no suitable server available (average PC, except for 4 Gb
physical memory).
In a few weeks or months from now this could change, when new high-end DB
servers arrive to replace current not so high-end DB servers.

Greetings.
I have renewed my subscription to the Foundation-L mailing list to make the
following proposal.
As you may be aware of, commercial airlines give out "miles" as thank-you
gifts for patrons who fly on a particular airline. Considering the amount of
money spent by the Foundation on air travel, it would be convenient for both
potential donors and the Foundation to accept airline miles as a donation.
Donors may find airline miles, which are gifts, easier to donate than their
own money, which they had to work for. Likewise, the Foundation could use
cash funds that would have been used on airfare for other matters, such as
server upgrades and staffers.
For the purpose of disclosure, I would like to state that I stole this idea
from the Make a Wish Foundation, which accepts airline miles as donations,
presumably for the sake of fulfilling the travel fantasies of ill children.
Of the times I asked others, I have seen very positive responses, so I bring
it now to the mailing list for wider attention.
Hi, buddies.
I have searched Nabble for this topic, but only found one thread.
Do we have our plan to participate this year?
I know some student in China want to join, anybody can help?
Thanks.
Regards,
Mingli

Well of course it's a restricted donation, since it's a currency of airlines
and they have no cash value. That doesn't change the fact that a significant
amount of the budget is spent on flying people around, and this would allow
for that to happen with less financial consequences
Is it that important to fly people around? After all, this is an internet
site.

Hey all,
I keep seeing lines in my away log complaining about me being lazy and
not setting IRC cloaks, and about people offering their assistance (in
response to kinder notes of me just being busy). I thought I would
clear the situation up. I am on wikibreak at present for most of my
roles but I am still completely dedicated to being our most active IRC
Group Contact (James is also active, but less so) and so this is not
the issue. The reason why no cloaks are being set at present is
different.
Essentially, James and I are trying to redo our paperwork with
freenode to make sure that we are allowed to set the cloaks we do and
also to add new namespaces by popular request, such as wikiversity/
cloaks. The freenode head of staff is the person responsible for
sorting this paperwork with us and unfortunately she has been
indisposed due to injury for some weeks now. This means that we have
been unable to do what we need to do and as a result cloaks are just
sitting in the request system. However, as soon as things are sorted
out *I will set every cloak (assuming it meets the requirements) in
the system in one fell swoop!*
Please be patient and considerate while these problems are sorted out.
Rest assured there is no laziness involved!
Thanks,

Board members,
I have a question regarding the minutes from the last meeting. At the
bottom of the page, it states that Frieda will be the liaison between
the board and the chapter committee. Isn't that what Delphine is paid
to do? If there is some difference in the positions, what does this
mean?

Forwarded to foundation-l because the topic's come up here, and
wikimediauk-l for UK interest. If you're in the EU, please sign the
new petition.

Subject: Term extension: you helped us say no in the UK, now help us
say no in Europe
To: dgerard(a)gmail.com
Dear Petitioners
Thanks for signing our Release The Music petition in 2006. You helped
us win the battle against copyright term extension in the UK. Now we
need your help again. The European Commission are discussing a
proposal for term extension. This is truly urgent because the UK
government will be reassessing their 'no' to the term extension lobby
in light of the new proposal. So if you oppose copyright term
extension for sound recordings then sign our new, Europe-wide
petition, now:
http://www.soundcopyright.eu/petition
Please also be sure to tell your communities about the petition,
whether via your blog, podcast, mailing lists or just down the pub. In
particular, if you are in touch with digital rights activists in
Europe then please push the petition link in their direction and ask
that they sign up too. The website is available in English, French and
German.
If you've still got some energy left after that, please write to your
MP about the issue. A Private Member's bill for copyright term
extension will have its 2nd reading in the House of Commons on 7
March. We need more informed opponents of the Bill in Parliament so
please tell your MP just how you feel on this issue. For advice on how
to write to your MP and suggestions for the kind of arguments that
work in this context, please read our blogpost:
http://www.openrightsgroup.org/2008/02/21/fighting-copyright-term-extension…
Finally, if you're not already, please consider becoming a supporter
of the Open Rights Group. Your regular financial contributions enable
us to raise awareness of digital rights issues by staging events
across the country, lobbying the British and EU Parliaments, and
monitoring and engaging with the national and international press.
When politicians talk to ORG, they know they're talking to a group
that is funded by their voters, and they listen and act accordingly.
So please, support ORG! Follow this link to sign up:

If you have any questions about this campaign or any of our other
issues then please send an email by reply or give us a phone in the

Thanks for your support.

Hello,
Following a question from a french wikipedian, I visited the page on
meta related to leaflets: http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Leaflet
Many of these leaflets are outdated. Some never went beyond the draft
stage. Some seem to be finished, but were never produced in pdf version.
Is there anyone willing to help finish some of these leaflets ?
Of if projects or chapters have other leaflets being done and not listed
on this page, can someone complete the meta page ?
Thanks
Ant
Hi,
I wanted to share with you something quite interesting. In the recent
(declining) number of email complaints, people are now using chain
letters without actually reading/understanding them. This is what just
came to OTRS:
"From: @hotmail.com
The reason for requesting removal of these pictures is that Islam
does not allow drawing of human beings as it is the first step that
leads to idol making. Also it is forbidden to show any images of any
kind of the prophet, or any prophets regardless. This is highly
offensive to the entire Muslim Community. Kindly remove the images of
the Prophet Mohammad (SAW).
Thank You"
AFTER
THAT Youre going to get a stupid response from them about how they try
to be honest and fair and accurate with their entries, and to them the
pictures are legit, so reply with this:
"Thank you for
replying but if you are supposed to put accurate information then why
do you put images up that are not accurate? If you are speaking about a
religion that does not support images and such, then why do you put
them up in an article about that religion? They are not made by any
Islamic source since it is forbidden to have any images, so therefore
it can not be accurate. All I am asking is for you to take down the
inappropriate pictures, this article is fine without them. Since your
goal is to "provide full and accurate information" then i suggest the
images be removed so your goal can be attained.
Thank you again"
I think I will include a response to the second email in my first
answer to reduce traffic to the network.
