Mhhh... sorry I'm using a language that I don't really know (you
know), I'll try to be clearer.

CPOV is a something that is never been official policy of WMF project
(yes I know that WMF has a POV, every one in the world as one: is a
trivial sentence). I know that local community could have a local POV
but I also know that we (as wikipedians I mean) have to build an
enciclopedia not care about things different from this.
They, pms people, say that local language are better than other
language and English is evil. I just **asked** if this is coherent
with our purpose. Then they (serious guy and friends) start talking
nonsense about not existent policy and call me nationalist troll. I
wonder who is making noise here.

In Norway a university has a large collection of newspapers, the
collection is claimed to cover around 3000 running meters in the store
house - without the norwegian and nordic newspapers, whats left is
international newspapers from the last 150 years. If no one is coming up
with a solution the collection is going to be destructed (actually burned)
I think the best thing to do is to scan them and make them publicly
available. Of course neither I or WM Norway can set forth to do such a
task, but if there should be some wealthy person out there that might be
able to involve himself in such a task, I think it would be a very
worthy gift to the mankind (where is the women!) to do such a thing.
When I heard of this I was shocked. Most of us are. I've infact studied
with the university that attempted tu burn the newspapers. The plans
have been stalled for now, but some permanent solution has to be found.

I fully disagree with Schlottmann.
1. Nicholas Baker has shown in its book "Double Fold"
http://delicious.com/Klausgraf/doublefold that microfilms are not a
substitution for the original newspapers. And digitization isn't, too.
2. National Libraries might have the duty to digitize newspapers but
if they don't do it or if they cooperate with toll access companies
like the British Library http://newspapers.bl.uk/? The Public Domain
belongs to us all!

I would like to celebrate the fact that the 100th official edition (not even
counting the extra editions, preliminary editions etc) of WIKIZINE has been
sent out today by Walter! I think we owe him a lot for keeping us up to date
a bit with all the lot of things that happen in wiki world, and the great
work he does.
However, as you have noticed probably, the rate went down in the past time,
due to time shortage, and I think he could use some help :) So all, help
Walter as a thank for his great work, and lets keep it up!
Hooray!

The long planned Hungarian chapter has been founded by 20 members on the 27
September, and we have handed in our court application on the 29th.The court
registration process in Hungary might be quite long (all in all up to 3
months), before we become operational.
After the Chapters Committee and the Metropolitan Court of Budapest approves
our bylaws,we would like to do everything to further the Foundation's
mission in Hungary, and to have a close working relationship with the other
chapters, to organise events, workshops and activities inside and with
cooperation outside Hungary. Also we would like to lobby for a friendly
change in the legal atmosphere to loosen copyright restrictions together
with the also newly found Hungarian Creative Commons Association.
We would like to thank everyone who has helped us come so far, and those
whose further help will allow us to take our place in the family of
Chapters.

The Free Software Foundation has launched a campaign to support Ogg
http://www.fsf.org/resources/formats/playogg
Wikimedia Commons is not on the Friendly Sites list. I have just sent
them an email pointing that, but someone from WMF (Jay?) may want to
also talk with them.
I copy the brief below:
I'm writing today to ask you to support the Play Ogg campaign
(http://playogg.org).
Are you tired of constantly being prompted to download proprietary
software and plugins to play the videos and listen to the music you
want? Are you fed up with seeing new gadgets that only use incompatible
and restrictive audio and video formats? Did you know that it's not a
lack of technological know-how that causes this, but software patents
and other legal restrictions?
Increasingly proprietary software companies like Microsoft, Apple and
Adobe are pushing video and audio formats that restrict access and
restrict software developers, but there is an alternative that can be
played on all computers without restriction—Ogg.
Ogg provides professional grade multimedia formats. Ogg is used
extensively by free software projects, artists and a growing number of
music and video distributors.
Soon over a million children and their families will be receiving the
One Laptop per Child XO computer designed to play and create Ogg files.
By advocating now for Ogg we can help ensure that those children will
gain access to, and not be unnecessarily restricted from thousands of
educational resources and materials on the web.
Join us in advocating for Ogg right now by taking 4 Easy Steps: Install
VLC multimedia player, sign-up for the PlayOgg advocate mailing list,
find and share Ogg friendly sites, and put PlayOgg Buttons on your web
site or blog. After all that, if you are still looking for more to do,
consider encouraging others to do the same.

Subject: RE: fair use on Hungarian Wikipedia - help!
To: foundation-l-owner(a)lists.wikimedia.org
Hi!
Please help, the Hungarian Wikipedia have an law problem with not free
images. Near all book, music, movie etc. cover and poster, logos
removed because of Foundation policy.
(http://wikimediafoundation.org/wiki/Resolution:Licensing_policy) Says
"in accordance with United States law and the law of countries where
the project content is predominantly accessed" Hungarian law don't
grant using this kind images. (But not really banned.)
Lot of user would like to illustrating again the article of books,
movies, etc. We maked a fair use like policy for our Wikipedia but
Foundation policy not totally grant it because of Hungarian law. Why
need to be stopped the visual evolution of Hungarian Wikipedia? This
images is not deplete the book publisher and movie studios, etc! It's
popularize them, but they usually don't answers the mails. In the
entire internet anybody don't have any problem because of using
illustrating a text about movie etc. Hosting these by servers it's not
else than the english Wiki's pictures. Why so hard the Foundation
policy for thos countries where there is a outdated law? There wasn't
and won't any problem with it. Can't you help us?
Policy says this too:
"Such EDPs must be minimal. Their use, with limited exception, should
be to illustrate historically significant events, to include
identifying protected works such as logos, or to complement (within
narrow limits) articles about copyrighted contemporary works"
Our plan is good for it, isn't it enough?
Thanks
László Szalai

Who knew that "Wikipedia was hiring website processing specialists"?
Not me, that's for sure! Easy money, here we come!
Any chance someone can check this out? Seems like a complicated spam
farm of sorts.
