Dear all,
The Wikibooks NL community has decided to change the default license
of the textbooks for the future. That will mean that from a certain
point in the near future all new submitted changes and new texts will
be default double licenced under GNU FDL *and* CC-BY-SA-2.5 or later.
The texts that are currently in Wikibooks NL will be marked as "GFDL
only". This is so the project will be better able to spread it's
content (as the reuser has a choise to use only a page of the
wikibooks project without printing all the license etc)
If every contributor of a certain page has agreed to relicense all
his/her contributions on Wikibooks NL, also those in the past, under
both licenses, the template stating the excemption of the default will
be removed.
It will still be possible to import pages from Wikipedia NL to
Wikibooks NL. This will mean that a small part of the newly created
pages will also be marked as "GFDL only". The community has taken some
more precautions, such as creating templates to relicense all you
contributions (HINT: {{Dubbel}}) and a page with explanation, but it
would be too much in detail to explain that on this list. See this
please as announcement, and contact the Wikibooks NL community through
our Tutors' Chamber ([[b:nl:Wikibooks:Lerarenkamer]])
With kind regards,
Lodewijk Gelauff
Wikisources are going to reach 200 000 articles (now all 52 Wikisources have
190 865 articles) [1]. Are in plans of anyone to write a Press release? The
"war" for the second position between French and Spanish wikis and for the
fourth position between Portuguese and Chinese wikis is promising :)

Hi. I'm user Chacor on the English Wikipedia (formerly NSLE), user NSLE at
the French Wikipedia, and user NSLE-Chacor at commons. However, this morning
I was notified that user "Meteoroid" on the English Wikipedia (now " Z.E.R.O.")
created new "NSLE-Chacor" accounts around wikimedia projects, like at meta,
and at wikia, and at mediawiki.org (that I know of, there may be more),
clearly impersonating me. He knows what he's doing, because "NSLE-Chacor" is
not used anywhere else, and is used only by me (the name comes from
"NationStates", an online nation simulation game, as well as my nations on
that game). There is no possible way anyone would suddenly come up with
"NSLE-Chacor".
The accounts on meta and mediawiki.org have been blocked (by Angela and
Titoxd, respectively), while the one at wikia is under investigation pending
a response from Meteoroid. However I sense a pattern, and there could be
more such accounts. However, Interiot's SUL username tool is lagging right
now, so it does not return any.
I do not appreciate being impersonated like this, and it should not be
tolerated. Is there any possibility of a wikimedia-wide ban on this
character for this impersonation? I'm feeling frustrated and harassed right
now, that this user has gone out of his way to make me feel so
uncomfortable. He even edited my Commons userpage to say "NSLE-Chacor
elsewhere is not me", a clear sign he knows what he's doing.
This should not be tolerated.
Please help.
NSLE/Chacor
Here's an even better question. Does Wikimedia have to comply with
CALEA as a broadband service provider for lawful intercept. If so, I
mght be able to arrange for some appliance donations to Brion and the
team from:
http://www.soleranetworks.com
Let me know if we can help.

The first cut of the Cherokee Language Materials are at:
ftp://www.wikigadugi.org/wiki/lexicon/chrlexicon-master.tar.bz2
This master lexicon contains all known Cherokee Language words, phrases,
and constructs (over 58,000)
along with proper mapping of drifted Oltali words to the Sequoyah
Syllabary. They would be a good update for
Gerard's WikitionaryZ project since it contains the phrases and both
text and syllabary rendering of these
phrases.
These materials are "pure" Cherokee phrases. They do not contain any of
the synthetic or word paring lexicons
created by the machine translator.

There have been a large number of downloads of the torrent files for the
images, however, there does not seem to be a lot of interest
form folks in helping seed the images files. I have had a lot of folks
connect then disconnect. I set a limit on upload speed since torrent
can be energetic. The torrents are not trackerless, since the DMCA
requires that I be able to notify folks, the torrent uses a tracker.
Anyone interested or who feel trackerless torrents would be preferred
let me know. I also would like to see more folks join the swarm
so we can propogate the seeds more efficiently. I have setup a second
seed to improve the performance.

Dear community,
I would like to announce officially that the Wikimedia Foundation has
decided to hire Cary Bass (User:Bastique on various wikis, most active
on Commons) as Volunteer Coordinator. He will work full-time in the
Wikimedia Foundation office in St. Petersburg, Florida.
Please see
http://lists.wikimedia.org/pipermail/foundation-l/2007-February/028066.html
for the original job description. Kat and I will work with Cary in the
very short term to refine this description and help him define his
areas of work.
Cary's most relevant experience is as a long time community member,
including his work as part of our OTRS e-mail response team. He has
shown on numerous occasions that he has the ability to motivate people
and to get things done, while being diligent and well-organized. The
entire Board and Staff has met Cary this weekend in St. Petersburg,
and I believe it's fair to say that we're all very happy to have him
onboard. Thanks to everyone else who applied.
Hiring Cary is part of our long term commitment to making sure that
the global volunteer community will be involved not just in
project-level work, but also in all aspects of what our organization
is doing. Expect some exciting initiatives from him in the near
future. :-)
Erik Möller
Executive Secretary, Wikimedia Foundation
Congradulations to Bastique! :)

The accounts do have edits, unfortunately. Thanks, everyone. Hopefully he'll
admit that he's behind all this and apologise. :/
