Concerning "wikilovesmonuments.TLD" in the local team timeline: is such domain name obligatory? We don't have a chapter and we don't have sponsors yet. On the other hand, we have wikimedia.by domain and making the project in wlm.wikimedia.by would be fine.
What do you think?

Hello Paul, thank you for your question.
The top-level domain is of course not obligatory, just as the whole timeline is supposed to be an advice.
We are aware of the situation in many countries which does not allow one to register a domain without having a trademark, so you are free to register another domain in such a situation or use a subdomain of a domain you own.
On the other hand, if there is a possibility to register this domain, I (we) would strongly suggest to do so, even just to protect it from squatting if you're going to use another one.
I think that the Polish Wikimedia chapter would be more than happy to support you in buying this domain and giving you a bit of server space on our toolserver to set it up.
I'll try bring this topic to the meeting of the Board which is to be held tomorrow evening (20:00 UTC); please just confirm that the community will be joining this years' Wiki Loves Monuments -- you may of course contact me off the list to discuss all the details.
Warm regards, - -- Tomasz Kozłowski | [[user:odder]]

Oh, you raised another good question - hosting. We can by some means afford a 2nd-level domain name (wikilovesmonuments.by, the issue is money, not trademarks, AFAIK, Ukraine has some restrictions), but I'm certain that we can't afford hosting and sharing toolserver with us would be great. :)
On behalf of Wikimedia Belarus initiative I announce that Belarus joins Wiki Loves Monuments, and this year we mean it ;)
Hello,
The risk is cybersquatting, i.e someone else registering the domain to put an ad page. For example, Wikimedia Foundation hosts Wikispecies in the species.wikimedia.org subdomain instead of wikispecies.org : you can see the result...
Maybe some money can be reserved in the international budget for the registration of domains in countries without a chapter or with a small one ? This shouldn't cost a huge amount of money.
Regards, Sylvain.

Sylvain -- I think that this is an important issue that would definitely need to be considered in the upcoming days.
There isn't yet a certain and defined budget for the international part of the competition. We /do/ have some preliminary sums from Wikimedia Nederland, Wikimedia Deutschland and Wikimedia Poland, but some additional money from other participating countries that will be able to afford it would certainly be useful, not only for the domains but for other costs, too.
Plus, of course, there is an idea to submit a request grant to the Wikimedia Foundation and we should all be working on it in the months to come.
Thanks, - -- Tomasz Kozłowski | [[user:odder]]

We would risk a lot of red tape. Chapter one on ones probably works better. I'm sure some chapters are willing to help out when asked to register a specific domain.
Talking about domains, we should probably slowly move from wikilovesmonuments.eu to wikilovesmonuments.org :-)

In Spain wikilovesmonuments.es was taken by sombody who wanted money. He had to use wikilm.es because wlm.es was also taken.

I'm sorry. *We* had to use wikilm.es, not "he".
