Hi everyone,
In the past years, I have with much pleasure worked on making Wiki Loves Monuments a success, by supporting the international community that organizes this great competition as well as possible.
As we're wrapping up the ongoing competition but also approaching the time to submit our plans for next year in about a month, it is time for me to evaluate my own role. After ten editions over the course of eleven years, I'm taking a step back in the international team, and will not be part of the core team. This way, I hope to be able to refocus my energy and efforts in new ways, and allow the international team at the same time to rejuvenate.
The international team will be looking for a few additional members to join them, and you can expect more communication from them over the coming while. If you already think of someone, please do reach out to Stephen, who will be leading the effort to welcome new colleagues on the team.
In a funny way, I'm excited for the next year in a new role, and what the rejuvenation may bring for the international team. I hope you are too, and that some of you will step up to the challenge, and help out! I'll remain involved in smaller ways hopefully, and will of course keep following everything!
With much love and warmth,
Lodewijk
Thanks so much for all your work!
Best, Sara

Congratulations Lodewijk and team for transitioning leadership! This project has been so successful for so long, that its hard to imagine a Wikimedia Movement without it -- but that makes a leadership transition even harder -- lots of expectations, and lots of momentum that is sometimes hard to manage.
This is a really hard process, to transition institutional memory and leadership on such a large project -- let me know if there is anything the WMF campaigns team can do to help think through the process.

Hi Lodewijk,
Compliments of the season to you and the international team.
You have done so well over the years to put the contest to the level that it is today. It is also a great news to hear about your decision to take a step back to allow others to grow into the project. You are such an exemplary leader.
Once again thanks for championing this initiative in the movement.
Garcia.

Thanks Lodewijk for yourhard and tireless work on WLM for so many years. I remember when we started WLM internationally. It was just an idea, something that had been done in the Netherlands last year, a crazy idea to expand it as an international contest. And see it nowadays, it's almost taken for granted that there will be a WLM in September (a trap in itself, participation in further years is easier than the first one, but still, there's a lot of work!).
Thanks again Lodewijk, and looking forward for the new team
Thanks a lot Lodewijk!

Hi all,
As Lodewijk mentioned, the Wiki Loves Monuments international team will be looking for volunteers to support the competition next year and beyond. I will send more information later this week. Please feel free to email me at stephen.laporte@gmail.com if you have any questions in the meantime.
We also plan to host office hour(s) with the international team if you want to discuss the goals and plans for the next year. I'll send a separate email with a note about how to join us.
Lodewijk, on a personal note, it's been a lot of fun working with you over the last few years. Your leadership and commitment has truly been an inspiration. Many thanks for all your contributions and advice, and for thoughtfully setting us up for the years ahead!
Best, Stephen

This year everything is a bit later than usual, due to the pandemic. I expect the results to be there by the end of February (but maybe a bit earlier).
