vHi all,
[TL;DR] we are changing this list [wikilovemonuments-l] policy from moderation to rejection for messages from non-members of the list. [/TL;DR]
This list, which is moderated by Lodewijk and myself, gets every day a huge amount of spam and undesired messages, circa 20 messages per hour. We have tried in the last months to implement some filters to solve the problem with poor results.
Since it is impossible for us to keep moderating this huge quantity of messages we have decided to change the policy of the list so that messages sent by non members will be automatically rejected. At the moment the messages are accumulated in the moderation queue.
Members of this list (whose subscription and archives are - and will remain - open) should not experience any difference. Non-members of the list sending messages here will need to sign up to the list before being able to post.
Cheers,
Cristian

Technical specification: we are changing the mailman variable "generic_nonmember_action" from "Hold" to "Reject". Non-members will receive a notification e-mail if they send a message to the list, notifying the rejection.
(If somebody can make a case for "Discard" over "Reject" please do so).

"Discard" is probably unneeded: the spammers will receive confirmation that the email address exists, but there's no proof they need to know (they may be targeting mailman installs specifically). While humans get confused by not receiving any response to their rejected messages.
