Dear all,
as the the contest is preceding we would like to ask all of You for recommendations for the nomination of members of the international jury.
These is the criteria as announced on wikiolovesmonumentshttp://www.wikilovesmonuments.org/jury/
Each national contest will result in images for the international contest. The international jury, made up of seven members with different skills and backgrounds, will determine the winners of this final round out of the nominated images and award the prizes. Criteria
The jury will determine the winners of the international contest by the following criteria (in no particular order):
Technical quality (Sharpness, use of light, perspective etc.)
Originality / setting
Usefulness of the image on Wikipedia
Last year when the contest was an European contest these were the members of the juryhttp://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Wiki_loves_monuments_2011/Jury, just to give You an idea where to look:
- Michael Bieodowicz, manging director images ZEIT Magazinehttp://www.zeit.de/zeit-magazin/index - Sebastian ter Burg http://www.sebastiaanterburg.nl/, C- BY-SA Photographer, - Tomasz GAnicz, president of Wikimedia Polska - José Gustavo Góngora, Wikipedian - Sneska Quaedvlieg-Mihailovic, General Secretary of Europa Nostrahttp://www.europanostra.org/
Please help us with ideas and contacts, if You have, to the persons you recommend.
best regards Barbara

IMHO the problem with last year jury was bad propotions of non-photographers vs photographers - so it was really hard to persuade the jury to take into account basic technical requirements such as minimum resolution or realism of colors and geometry of photographed objects. My suggestion is to compose the jury from as many as possible professional photographers. I think WLM is so global this year that we could not have problems to ask really top world photographers. I think we can learn from World Press Photo jury composition:
Having professionnal photographers for the jury would be awesome. In France, we have a backclash between the chapter and the main photographers union/lobby that accuses us to "kill the job" with free (as in free beers) pictures. So really a good idea in the paper
However, having professionals in the jury might be hard for two reasons : we have to find someone who is willing to do his job for free (or to justify that we are paying for this) and professionnals might not work as quickly as volunteers (we were late on the schedule last year because we had a notorious, professional photographer who had other priorities thant WLM).
I think it is important to also have voluntaries photographers from the Wikimedia movement (we have lot of good photographers on Wikimedia Commons), like the authors of featured pictureshttp://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Featured_pictures_by_creator. It would be nice to ask them if they would be interested in joining the jury.
