Good morning!
I'm happy to provide you with an additional app for iPhone and Android mobile devices, developed by 123POI, a part of the MairDumont media group, a publishing house in Germany with a focus on travelling. You might know the Marco Polo travelling guides, and it also publishes the Lonely Planet guides for the German-speaking market.
I created a page with (hopefully) all relevant information at Commons:
https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Wiki_Loves_Monuments_2012/Tools/1...
There are 2 main points that make this app different from our WMF WLM app that might be interesting for you and your participants:
* iPhone availability * geocoding of addresses - this app will find and show also monuments without coordinates in Wikipedia on a map
The other difference is, that a user does not need to register at Commons but in the app, and there will be a batch transfer of the images to Commons (similar to some Flickr batch uploads for WLM beforem see the test uploads here: http://commons.wikimedia.beta.wmflabs.org/w/index.php?title=Special:ListFile...). This might make it easier for new users to participate (no break in the user flow), however these users won't be visible as new "Commons users".
The app will be improved by your feedback and I kindly ask you spread the word and to test it as much as possible in the next days! Please put all of your feedback to the page https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Wiki_Loves_Monuments_2012/Tools/1... , the developers will track this!
One last demand: If you find the app useful for your community and participants, please show your appreciation by mentioning the app and the sponsor on your local websites. I will provide you with some more information about the sponsor soon.
Thank you!
Regards,
Elke
that is really awesome, elke! would you be so kind to share details about the sponsoring agreement?
the monuments search seems to be interesting as well. i searched for "bern" and found: * mcfit, prenzlauer berg, berlin " aldi, brenzlauer berg, berlin"
for which countries is this expected to work?

Wow, good news Elke!
Rupert (and all): it would be great if you also could put the feedback on the page Elke linked. That way we reduce the (already high!) amount of emails on this list, and it is easier to process for the developers.
Thanks!

The sponsoring agreement includes mentions on the international blog and the German press release, and that I ask you to mention it on the national websites and your press releases – of course we cannot speak for your local teams. However, we would be happy if you spread the word if you find it helpful!
Mair Dumont is very interested in using freely licensed content from Commons and Wikipedia, and this is app is one way of "giving back".
The app should use all the data from our monuments database, so if there are bugs (and there are, I found similar stuff in Cologne), please provide your feedback on the page provided:
https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Wiki_Loves_Monuments_2012/Tools/1...

I wrote a couple of days ago (or yesterday, I don't remember) to the developer (usign the mail address provided in Google Play Store), since we (i.e. Wikimedia Italia) would like to help translating the app in Italian. If we manage to do that we will suggest the app for iPhone users.
