WMDE has granted 8000 EUR to a project to take photos in Central Hesse, a German region. People are invited to come and get their travel expenses back.

Zaanstad is new, and it looks like Kampen got dropped - did I miss something? These are the dates last communicated on the Dutch list, as far as I can tell. Jane

Noorse, Yeah, Maastricht is definitely in need. I do remember discussing this one, but I have no idea of the latest status since I wasn't at the last Dutch meeting - Bas was and apparently there was no one to organize a Wiki Takes in Maastricht. Middelburg has a great historical center despite all the damage it has suffered in the last century. This is the first I hear of ANY plans down there! Jane

They ehere all Maybe's: and Kampen and Zwolle now have the status: probably not (3 weeks ago i've pictured 70% off the monuments in Kampen). Zaanstad will me a little round by bike in de zaanstreek. Amersfoort will probably be 17 september, zaanstreek 24.

WMDE has granted 8000 EUR to a project to take photos in Central Hesse, a German region. People are invited to come and get their travel expenses back.

Perhaps somebody could adapt that template ( http://ten.wikipedia.org/wiki/Template:Eventmap) to put the events in Europe. But I don't know if this could work in the wikilovesmonuments.* web pages..., after all, that template could be on Commons and be linked from the web sites...

"Wiki Loves Monuments Mittelhessen" (Central Hesse) which is a community project, we'll be photographing 11 days in a row, I''ll write a blog post soon
"Wiki Loves Monuments Fürth" which runs during the WikiConvention, a german language Wikimedia conference in the neighbouring city of Nürnberg. It's a one day project integrated in the conference, we're supported by the local cultural heritage person
"Wiki Loves Monuments Bergheim" and "Wiki Loves Monuments Hückeswagen" are both partnerships with smaller cities in Northrhine-Westphalia, as soon as there is progress and more detalis to report, I'll either do a blog post or send something to the mailing list
I'm in charge of and coordinating those four projects, so feel free to ask if you need more information.

great idea, but unfortunately, those lists are useless: they were created in a hurry when the ministry responsible for cultural heritage decided they wanted to know about all cultural heritage monuments by the end of the year, so a small team of experts drove through every village and literally decided by rule of thumb which building fit the categories provided by law. The lists consist of nothing more than a really short description (one or two words) and a street address, they actually showed some of the folders to me. With further investigation, a not so small number of buildings listed won't be considered a monument anymore, some of the buildings have been teared down or modified over the past two-and-a-half decades... Not even the government agency uses those lists anymore, they will always have a look at the building when they're asked wether it's a monument or not.
In Hesse (and most other german states), it's the law and not an administration that decides which building is a cultural heritage monument. Therefore, there's no need to have lists everywhere. They're working on it, but it takes about 5 years to cover 500 monuments, since they take a really detailed look at the architecture, search in archives etc. Since the lists are not needed to protect the buildings, they have plenty of time and only very few people are working on it (usually just one guy per county, if at all). They won't complete the work until 2030 if they keep up the current pace.
For all areas of the state, we can however rely on a series of books called "Dehio", which lists _very_ special buildings like churches and town halls, who clearly fall under what the law considers a cultural heritage monument. During the Central Hesse project, we'll spend a weekend in an area just covered by those books and try to photograph as many of those monuments.
