Hi everyone,
About three years ago we started this little photo competition to get more photos of monuments. In three years Wiki Loves Monuments grew to be the largest photo competition gathering over half a million photos. I was one of the main organizers for the last three years (Netherlands, Europe, world). I really enjoyed doing that, but all good things come to an end. I decided it's time for some other people to continue what I've started; I won't be part of the WLM2013 organizational team.
It's not that I will be completely gone. I will probably continue working on the monuments database and spend some time on the project as a "normal" volunteer.
Thank you all for putting up with me and making Wiki Loves Monuments such a great project. I couldn't have done it without you.
Maarten
many thanks Maarten for the great job.

Thanks for being the part of the organization and hope to see you around. (Somebody needs to run Erfgoedbot anyway).
Cheers Yaroslav

I join everyone in applauding your work on WLM, and I also applaud your decision to take a step back. Not because you wouldn't be an asset to the team, of course, but because it is the right thing to do to best grow the team, the project, and the movement.
Cheers,
A.

Thanks Maarten indeed for the great job so far! Wiki Loves Monuments would not have been possible without your enduring support in the past years - you were truly the soul of the contest, even if you weren't as visible to everyone.
While we have moved into 2013 already, we also started working on the 2013 competition. We will soon give a more dedicated blogpost and email about that, so stay tuned!
