Hi all!
Looks like we are really going to make it: the islands of the Dutch Carribean are joining Wiki Loves Monuments 2017!
Wikipedia on the Dutch Carribean https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dutch_Caribbean:
*The Dutch Caribbean refers to territories, colonies, and countries, both former and current, of the Dutch Empire https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dutch_Empire and the Kingdom of the Netherlands https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kingdom_of_the_Netherlands that are located in the Lesser Antilles https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lesser_Antilles archipelago of the Caribbean Sea https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caribbean_Sea.*
* Current territories comprise the islands of Aruba https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aruba, Curaçao https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cura%C3%A7ao, Sint Maarten https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sint_Maarten, Bonaire https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bonaire, Sint Eustatius https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sint_Eustatius, and Saba https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saba. The contemporary term is sometimes also used for the Caribbean Netherlands, an entity since 2010 consisting of the three islands of Bonaire, Sint Eustatius and Saba, which are special municipalities of the Netherlands https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caribbean_Netherlands#Administration.* The Dutch team is supporting the Dutch Carribean in collecting the lists needed for the competition and facilitating the juryprocess. Are you a resident of the islands, do you want to join the team and help? Let me know!
Cheers, Ciell

This is great news! Thanks to all of you who worked on making this happen! :)

If your scope of search for volunteers involves people who are in the islands and may not be Wikimedians or may not be on this list: I suggest you consider showing banners to traffic from these islands to specific languages of your choice, to get some help with making these contests happen. I don't know the details of how much control you can have over constraints you can define on banners, but for example: traffic from these islands to articles about monuments in language x may be a good target for you to get some local people involved. :)
Good luck and do let us know if the international team can help you in any way while you're organizing the contest this year! :)
Best, Lily
Let me know!
Cheers, Ciell

I'm going to be on Sint Maarten the first full week in September for vacation. If the local people there want to have an event of some type that week I'll try my best to attend.
Contact me off line if you want to talk further about a WML event there.

btw, I updated the map [1] with Aruba and Curaçao. I leave the rest of the islands to be added by someone who knows more geography than I. ;)
And also: If anyone can make the map updating automatic, I will be grateful to them. We have a phabricator task for it at https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T140614 Other than saving time from manually updating the map, it also creates a more rewarding experience for whoever adds a country name to see their country/region/campaign to glow on the map. :)
