Dear all,
The draft version of the questionnaire for this year's participants' survey is ready: http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Wiki_Loves_Monuments_2013/Particip...
There is a description of the changes with regard to last year's questionnaire on the talk page.
Please give feedback until 30 August! - If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask them on the talk page or on this mailing list.
@International Team: Please let us know if it is ok for you if we add your names at the end of the intro text, as was done in previous years!
Kind regards,
Beat Estermann

Hello Beat,
wanted to check if we can add anything about CC-BY-SA here. I mean, we can add a question like; "Did you ever know that contributing anything in Creative Commons license is the best way to share anything in the world?" We do have the license as the default one to participate in the contest, but many of them don't even know what exactly is CC all about!!
People actively contributing to Flickr might just consider to upload all their images in CC license if we can educate people about this, and survey might also be a better idea.

Hi Karthik,
what exactly would you like to accomplish with that question? What information would you like to collect, and what would you like to do with that information? The longer a survey gets the less people fill it out, so I'm always in favor of reducing the number of questions where possible. One way of doing that is by removing questions where we already know we will not actually act upon the results.

Maybe this question could be turn that way : “What licence did you chose ?” It is useful to know how many people stay with the default licence and how many change it (and at the same time increase the awareness of free licences which is important but maybe not enough in itself to be in this survey). If many people change the licence, we could act to change the the default licence.

This one sounds better too. All I wanted to play with the license, and this one sounds appropriate. We can make sure to know, with which license people are more comfortable with.

We already know that ~ 60/70% of the respondents will be new users, meaning that they will probably not understand properly what you're talking about. The WLM upload infrastructure has been built in such a way that we don't push the license too much in their face, but only inform them that they are releasing it etc - we don't push a choice to them. I don't expect any reliable answers from such a question (or any license related question). If the intended audience were primarily wikimedians, that might be different.
If any question around free licensing would be appropriate, it would probably be finding out whether it was a hurdle for them - do they consider releasing stuff under a free license a problem? But even about that I'm very doubtful whether it is worth the confusion and extra question.

What if we can ask something as easy like this: "Will you reconsider and recommend your friends to contribute contents on Internet under free license??"

Dear all,
Thanks a lot for your valuable feedback!
I've completed the questionnaire today: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Wiki_Loves_Monuments_2013/Partici...
It can now be set-up for translation.
Kind regards, Beat

I agree that shorter surveys are more effective. On that notem could the final question be shortened? Questions along the lines of 'would you like to hear from us again' are sensible and common amongst surveys etc, but that is the longest I've come across.
