Hi all, Along with a couple of people at the Foundation, I manage the big social media accounts for Wikipedia on Facebook and @wikipedia and @wikimedia on Twitter. I'd like to invite more participation from the wider WLM community in the next few weeks and as we start the contest in September.
*Facebook:* The last two days, I've been reposting the top ten photos by country from last year on the Wikipedia Facebook page and it has been very popular, with lots of people clicking links and coming to look at the images (the Romania post from yesterday had a Facebook reach of 100,000 people getting the message on their wall and over 1,000 people clicking through the photos). Still waiting on the numbers from the Portugal post from today, but it looks like it was popular too. https://www.facebook.com/wikipedia
I'll continue to share the posts from each country in last year's contest through the start of WLM 2012 on the Wikipedia FB page, but I wonder if we can do more in other languages in addition to English? https://www.facebook.com/WikiLovesMonuments I can geo-target among our Facebook followers, so I could do specific posts in your language and your country, if that's something you would like. I've already shared a couple of posts from Wiki Loves Monuments Argentina, España and Chile today, but happy to do more if you let me know in advance and provide the text for me in your language (or if you've already shared in your language on Facebook, I can just re-share it there).
*Twitter:* I hope you can help me coordinate @wikipedia tweets as well. If you are going to be doing a tweet from your national WLM account (or your Chapter or personal accounts) and want me to re-tweet it, please let me know. I've tried to find relevant tweets already, but may have missed some. If you haven't seen me retweet a message, please let me know.
If it is more convenient to put the translated message on-wiki, you could leave suggestions here: https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Social_Media/Suggestions Or you can email socialmedia@wikimedia.org and a group of WMF staff can see your message and help post
Thanks, Matthew
Hi Matthew,
great thoughts here! I was already wondering where the higher reach was coming from on our facebook page. Incidentally WMNL has bought as an experiment 50 euro of ads credit on Facebook and activated it around the same time. So it is probably good to keep in mind for both that this might mix up together. (If you saw a high amount of Dutch 'likes' recently, that's probably why).
On the Patrimonio-iberocoop list (which is mostly about WLM in iberocoop countries) I also brought up the question about a spanish language WLM page on facebook. They're still looking for a few more volunteers to help out with it before they want to launch.
Please note that we also have a Wiki Loves Monuments Twitter account: @wikimonuments (the loves didn't fit). Elke is the person maintaining that mostly at this point. The hashtag we're using is #wikilovesmonuments . A bit long, but #wlm is already taken by a major software company for one of their products...
Related, I would love to share some stories about how Wiki Loves Monuments is being organized or received in your country. What makes it special? It is something people over the world would like to read. Unfortunately I'm having a hard time getting such blogposts. We would like to go to a frequency of at least one post every two days - but we can't do that without your help!
Best,
Lodewijk

Hi Lodewijk, I'm happy to hear that there will hopefully be a Spanish language WLM Facebook page. Will be happy to coordinate sharing posts when they put them up. I've retweeted a couple of posts from @wikimonuments, but Elke, please feel free to email me if you see that I'm missing tweets.
How do you imagine I could help with sharing stories of the organizing/participations, Lodewijk? Happy to try to help.

Hi all, Perhaps an easier way to make sure I'm following everyone is to list all the WLM twitter handles and Facebook pages? Is there a good place on http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Wiki_Loves_Monuments_2012 to list everything?

Hi all, Ignore this advice if you already know it: I think it is very useful to add links to your Facebook posts and your Twitter posts. Usually I would suggest on tweets that you link your own national site (or you can link your Facebook page), but it's great practice to give someone a place to go. Likewise on Facebook, I recommend linking your national site when you add new posts.
thanks, Matthew
p.d. thanks Romaine and other for adding your info to the list. I'm following and liking you now :)

Hello Matthew,
In 2011 I did most of the Twitter stuff: telling how many uploads there are on a certain day.
I used the account: https://twitter.com/wikimonumentsbe

Those tweets are very easy to make. I wonder if subscribers would consider them noisy.

Hi Matthew,
for India, I see that from @Wikipedia, you are following @WikimediaIndia and @Karthikndr (that's me). Hence, just make sure to repost our tweets.
Thanks!

You could add the twitter, facebook and flickr pages to http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Wiki_Loves_Monuments_2012/Communic...
- either in a new column (social media) or just add them to 'other
channels'.

Cool. We're also being tracked at http://www.museum-analytics.org/wiki-loves-monuments .
Maybe we can also get some big accounts like @creativecommons or @jimmy_wales to pick up on this?

I'll be sure to do a specific post encouraging Wikipedia Facebook fans to also like WLM page.

@creativecommons did a tweet about WLM on August 5th, without prompting from us. I imagine we can encourage a couple more from them.
