Hello all, I've found that some participants haven't yet entered their mail address in their preferences. It's required if french competitions rules (and I think in many others) so that we can contact the winners.
Is there any botmaster there that could do something to leave an automatic message on participants talkpage to warn them ?
Thanks
Hi,
I have a bot if it necessary (I should ask a permission to run this task before). But there is a ready to use tool for this in MediaWiki, which is available for Commons administrators: Special:MassMessage

(But I have no ready to use code to collect the users, who don't have accessible e-mail address. I would need a list first...)

It would be better to only ask for such details once people have won; that way, there's less at risk if there's a data protection breach.

Well, if the rules demand you have a working email to win, then there will be no need to ask those people since their images ideally should not be presented to the jury ;) (But I do not think the jury tool has support for that.)

You need to have an address but nothing prevents kind people to warn you that you've forgotten to enter it before the end of the competition ;)
@pigsonthewing I was thinking to people that are new, come once, maybe twice, will never show up again and won't see a message left on their talk page if it's not left short after their first uploads.
But if you think it doesn't worth the effort to develop something, I'll try to do it on my part and will let you know.

You wrote "mail address"; I read that as "postal mail address", and responded accordingly.
You now seem to mean "email address".

My bad ! In France we often use the term mail to designate the email, and I made the same mistake writting in english, sorry for this misunderstanding.
Well I was talking about the same a few days back.. Many contestants from Pakistan either not providing their email addresses or enabling the option of receiving from others.. We need some sort of solution to resolve the issue.. S.

To generate the list you can run an api query to get all users who have uploaded images to "Category:Images from Wiki Loves Monuments 2014 in X", then run a second query for userinfo on these users to see if they have the "emailable" property.

P.s. the category might be called something slightly different

Anything else that would be needed?

Sounds about right. But please note that the text should say they need also to confirm their email address. Maybe setting up a short help page explaining that would be helpful? (incl checking spam filter etc) Having a translated message would be ideal.

It looks pretty possible, I can start writing this later today and put in the BRFA tomorrow.
To confirm:
- Check to see if user who has image in a category/list has email.

participate.
Anything else that would be needed?
