Hi all, as you probably know, Italy this year is willing to participate to WLM, even if it's against the law :-) Our strategy is to gain as many partnerships as possible with local institutions and associations, those who can sign agreements and have "rights" on the monuments. Thus, we created a website for spreading the word: http://www.wikilovesmonuments.it/ (still under construction)
My question (the first of many, be sure :-) is: is there anywhere some press coverage on the contest? It would be nice for us to select articles to show the importance of WLM.
Moreover, do we already have a list of partners of WLM 2012? I recall Europeana, Europa Nostra, someone else?
Thank your for your help.
Aubrey
Hi, Andrea, nice to heard it.
* Press coverage: http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Wiki_Loves_Monuments_2011/Press_me... * European partners: http://www.wikilovesmonuments.eu/partners/ * Local sponsors: http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Wiki_Loves_Monuments_2011/sponsors
There is a list for monuments in Alghero at http://ca.wikipedia.org/wiki/Llista_de_monuments_de_l%27Alguer although they did not entered the contest of WLM 2011

Hi Andrea,
this question also came up on the iberocoop WLM list, so I'll repeat my answer here:
You will find some useful information about this in our European Heritage Awards application, which might also contain more useful explanations. http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:WLM_EHA_submission_2011.pdf - watch out, big file (16MB). Check the section 'results' and further. A very incomplete overview of press mentions is here: http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Wiki_Loves_Monuments_2011/Press_me... - Maybe WMES has a better overview for Spain somewhere, which might be more interesting to your governments. It at least included coverage in El Mundo and El País and on RTVE.
We estimate that the contest websites of the 18 countries together got some 7,5 million hits through the month of September. Number of uploads is 160.000+ by 5000+ people.
Hopefully it helps. For 2012 we have not yet secured partners, that will take time. Maarten could of course contradict me here :)

Hi Andre,
I don't know if you heard already (and I'm not entirely sure this is important, I'm really confused by the political situation there ;-) ), but Südtirol is already really active in preparing for WLM 2012: https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Portal:S%C3%BCdtirol/Mitmachen/WLM2012
Best regards,
Kilian

From what I remember the political situation in Südtirol is unchanged
since 1918, but this is a good point since many countries which intend to participate have indeed several state/official languages with active WMF project in these languages. Have these projects been notified /will they be notified somehow? I mean Italy (not only German, but also Sardinian, Lombardian and other languages), Russia (several languages, I will take care of the notification if somebody would finally decide whether Russia participates), Ukraine (Crimean Tatar) and others.
Cheers Yaroslav
Well, tank you Killian,i didn't know! I'll try contact them.

Thanks for pointing that out. We should add this to the monuments database. Is that something you can do or shall we do it together? I'm probably online on irc all weekend. I have a lot of catching up to do ;-)
Maarten
Ps. Any more sources we can add?

In my opinion they should be in touch with WM IT.
WM IT is organizing the list of monuments.

That would be nice. Maybe someone from WM IT can leave a note at the project page?

Looks like they already got a part of it. Thanks to Killian it's now also in our database, see http://toolserver.org/~erfgoed/api/api.php?action=search&format=html&... Would of course be very nice to also have the lists in Italian. I plan to write a bit of documentation on how to translate these kind of lists.
Maarten
Hi Maarten!
As you surely noticed the South Tyrol lists and the Austrian lists are very similar. If you have questions just ask :)
Greets,
Alex
