Hi everyone,
It's nice to have a lot of images of monuments on Commons, but it's even nicer to also have these images in use on Wikipedia. To assist in adding images to the lists I have been compiling galleries of unused images. I now improved this and made an overview page at https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Monuments_database/Unused_images
Please help out by adding unused images to the lists on Wikipedia and spreading the word to the local communities!
Thank you,
Maarten
Ps. Some of these pages are in my userspace. If you have a better location (like a subpage of your local heritage project) please contact me off-list.

Hi Maarten,
I actually wanted to ask this already last year. If I understand correctly, the bot now checks the images id's, and if for certain id the relevant list does not contain any photo, it adds all photos with this id to the unused images page. The users then manually add images to the lists and removed them from the unused images page.
Would it be difficult to go one step further and also check whether images at the unused images page are aleady at the list, and remove them from the unused images page in this case? This would save time since the manual cleaning of the unused images page would not be needed, only manual transfer of the images to the lists (which should be there anyway).
Cheers Yaroslav

This is happening already: During each run, the bot removes all now-used images from the unused images page (actually, I think it compiles a whole new list of unused images each run and replaces the old list, but the result is the same). So you can just add images and wait for the next run, they will all disappear. No need to manually clean the list.

Thanks Kilian. I just remember that last year we had to clean up the page in Dutch Wikipedia. Right now it looks like smth is not working properly, since the bot today returns the images which are already in the list, but I left Maarten a message and I hope this will be fixed at some point. It is good to know that we do not have to clean up the pages now. The central page is great, after doing all the Dutch images and placing a number of American ones I had fun to work on Estonian images and possibly I will also have fun with Romanian ones.
Cheers Yaroslav

You didn't have to, but some users emptied it out to prevent double work for other people :-)

Database update was broken. Fixed it. https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Monuments_database/Unused_images and all the lists are now up to date. Thanks for helping out! I hope more people will join in.
