Hey all,
I wonder what everybody think about listing each country' partners in the European "partner" section?
Special care should be taken to highlight European-level partners, of course, but that could give more visibility to each local partner and, consequently, motivate them to partner with us.
What do you think?
I think you are creepy and doing a course mindreading! Maarten and I have been brainstorming last weekend, and we actually came up with a similar thought - making a nice wallpaper-ish page on the wikilovesmonuments.eu page with all partner logos on it, a bit similar to the backgrounds you see in football interviews after a match. We would need to set up a nice page on Commons asking for the logo (external link is OK), the name of the sponsor, their website and the country they are sponsoring. To keep things simple I suggest to throw all levels for that together and not diversify.
So... sounds great :) I'll put a collection page up on http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Wiki_Loves_Monuments_2011/sponsors (if someone can properly link it etc that would be great - and feel free to work on the layout) and ask everybody now to put their sponsors on it with the asked information. Be generous with putting up sponsors/partners! I'll put up one for NL as example and will leave the others for a bit later (it is late now :P )

Great, we're in sync, then.
I've just added sponsors for PT.

I changed https://secure.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/wiki/Commons:Wiki_Loves_Monum... a bit to use a template and added some more partners/sponsors. Can other countries please add their partners/sponsors too? I plan to put this in a database and output it in JSON(P) for easy reuse. Nuno, Elke, Hay, someone else? Can you make something visually nice of this?
Maarten
Maarten,
I didn't loaded the list into a database, but rather fetch the page, parse it, and cache it.
I reinforce the appeal for all participating countries to fill in their appropriate sponsors/partners at:
http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Wiki_Loves_Monuments_2011/sponsors
This includes the EUropean sponsors!
Here is the tool:
http://www.wikilovesmonuments.org.pt/tools/sponsors/index.php
GET parameters: * format= json,php,html (I'll have to remember how to JSONP-it) * refresh= 1 (reload cache) * filter= countrycode(pt,es,...,'eu' for international, random for a random sponsor)
Example: all Portuguese sponsors, rendered in HTML:
http://www.wikilovesmonuments.org.pt/tools/sponsors/index.php?format=html&am...
PS: I just re-read your request (too late), and noticed you were more concerned about the visually niceness :P which is definitely not my department.
If someone have interesting ideas of *how* to display europe-wide partners, I might help implementing it.
Once we get enough logos, it would be really nice to randomly evenly spread them over a screen (without text, but linked to the website) in such a manner:
x x x x x x x x x x x x x x x x x x x x x x x x x x x x etc.
but maybe someone else has better ideas.

May we make a difference between partners and sponsors, it is quite different, also in term of communication for the companies we are citing.

What about giving our partners a Wikipedia entry in all language wikipedias that are taking part? That may be a strong motivator for partners in smaller countries that are still hedging with their lists...

"Giving an entry"? If someone spontaneously creates them it's nice, but this can't be part of a partnership, nobody can "give an entry" to anyone.

I agree with Nemo. It's too close to a conflict of interest.
