Hi everyone,
Next Tuesday (3 September 2024) at 17:00 CEST, CEE Hub along with speakers
from Ukraine and Armenia will hold a knowledge exchange session about the
good and bad practices to organise a Wiki Loves Monuments campaign in your
country.
We will share once again the conclusions from the survey that we had during
the summer, and we will open a discussion about the improvements,
especially about the promotion and post-contest activities, as the campaign
will start on 1st of September.
Everyone who wants to be part of this campaign, please save the link
<http://meet.google.com/dhs-befd-xwk> or you write me a message to add you
in the meeting, so you can have it in your calendar :)
See you soon

Hi all,
In our multilingual wikiverse we depend for many things on translations.
Many people speak other languages, but still many people can't.
Today I was wondering how well the name of the photo contest Wiki Loves
Monuments was translated in Wikidata
<https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q1353202> into various languages. Here an
overview: https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/User:Romaine/Wiki_Loves
Still in many languages a translation is missing. If you speak a certain
language, please add a translation by clicking on the pen icon. Also Wiki
Loves Earth and Wiki Loves Africa labels are listed.
In the large photo contests many translatable templates are used to make
Commons as much as possible available in the local language of the users.
You understand English, but many people don't. To make it easier to
understand and join, we often use templates that have been translated. Many
of these templates are only translated for a few languages, which is
restricting who can understand a text or not.
You can help by adding more translations for more languages:

In both lists only
Hello everyone,
It is my absolute pleasure to share with you that in 2 hours time, Wiki
Loves Monuments 2024
<https://www.wikilovesmonuments.org/wiki-loves-2024-to-commence-in-53-countr…>
will commence.
The 15th edition of the annual photo contest, aimed at documenting built
heritage worldwide, is organized in as many as 53 countries around the
world. At 16 UTC Aug. 31, the upload campaigns for Malaysia and Taiwan will
begin: a full list of participating countries can be found here
<https://www.wikilovesmonuments.org/participate>.
Wiki Loves Monuments 2024 will be organized in both September and October,
and some countries do not yet have their landing pages ready: in those
cases, please wait for updates on our website, or alternatively take a look
at the country coordination page
<https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Wiki_Loves_Monuments_2024/Partic…>
on Commons for the latest news.
We are looking forward to seeing your beautiful submissions again - not in
the least those pictures you might have taken last month in Poland while at
Wikimania!

Hi all,
I am a first time organiser of Wiki Loves Monument at Wikimedia Polska and
I have two questions. I was wondering if anyone had any experiences that
they could share about:
1. Treating drone photography as a separate category.
We're thinking of making photos taken by a drone into a separate category
but I'm not sure how to deal with it in a fair way. Can the photos be
considered in a separate category completely (and not eligible for the main
category - not very fair for the drone photos) or would they be considered
in two categories, main selection AND separate categorie, so potentially
eligible for two prizes and not very fair for everyone else?
2. The use of AI in photos - have you added any mentions of AI to your
regulations and if so, where do you draw the line? For example, enhancing
with AI tools is OK but not generating photos with AI completely? And so on.
I welcome any tips or experiences you might have and wish to share!
Thanks, with best wishes,
Kasia

Hi local organizer!
In about 5 days from now Wiki Loves Monuments is going to start in the
first group of countries. As every year, the international team creates the
banners for each of the countries.
Tomorrow I will begin with creating the banners so they are ready for the
start. But to be able to do that, I need input from you! Where should the
banner of your country link to?
1. Please add your landing page here:
https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Wiki_Loves_Monuments_2024/Landin…
2. Please also indicate where the English version of the landing page or
summary for non-native speakers can be found, if English is not the main
language of your landing page.
If your landing page is not in English, please make sure that on the
non-English landing page there is also a link to the English version, and
vice versa.
As each year, the international team will check if the landing pages are
meeting the minimal requirements as described here:
https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Wiki_Loves_Monuments_2024/Organi…
Thank you!
Romaine
Hi everyone,
Hope you are well (sorry for cross posting this question for those of you
who are part of the WLM telegram channel).
This year the team of Build Heritage Suriname is organizing an additional
Wiki Loves Monuments contest for participants of their summer school
(preschool students age 8-14).
I was wondering if there are any legal prerequisites wrt the students
uploading photos to Commons you know of? Is it e.g necessary to ask parents
for consent or something?
And does anybody have experience with organising Wiki Loves Monuments for
this age group and has some advice of what extra things need to be taken
into consideration? It would be great if you could share!
Thanks in advance, again!
Hartelijke groet,
Michelle van Lanschot

Dear all,
At
https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Wiki_Loves_Monuments_postcards_…
you can find postcards with the top ten winning photos of Wiki Loves
Monuments 2023. You are welcome to use the files if you want to print
some yourself. Maybe you are travelling to Wikimania in Poland? We will
bring a couple of sets of printed postcards there and will be happy to
share them with you.
If you want to create your own cards in a similar design you can use the
templates in TIF format (with layers, so you can edit every part of the
design) in the same Commons category.
Hope you like the cards :-)
Best regards,
Manfred
