Hi all
This afternoon on French Wikipedia, user Michiel1972 has beginning a
massive upload of data about the heritage buildings of Wallonia.
Everything was deleted, due to :
* a massive copyvio of http://lampspw.wallonie.be/dgo4/
* the absence of authorisation about the reuse of the data
(partnership, OTRS pending...)
* some lists were not in French
http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sp%C3%A9cial:Contributions_supprim%C3%A9es/Mic…
Does anybody know this user ?
I've also forwarded this message to Wikimédia France's internal list
about WLM, because Belgian people follow it too.

Thanks for taking he lead on this Platonides. Api looks nice! Is the
feature to provide a bounding box already available? That's used by
Google Earth/Maps and OpenStreetMap.

The format of Layar files is described at
http://layar.pbworks.com/w/page/7783213/API-structure .
In short: The client (a phone) provides a location and some more info.
The api should return POI's (point of interest) in a JSON format.
So on the search side we need bounding box and point+distance search to
get this working.

Hi! Wikimedia Spain celebrated its fist assembly last week-end, and El Mundo, one of the most important newspapers in Spain has published an article about that, with emphasis in WLM.

Hi Strainu,
I put the wlm mailing list on the cc.

You first have to make structured lists [1]. These lists can be added to
the monuments database [2]. I just add all available fields to the
country table and than map fields to the European table.
It might be easier to do this together to get it started. Maybe you can
join #wikilovesmonuments on Freenode [3]?
> Also, can you elaborate on what will you be using the data for?
We already have some tools working on the data [4]. For example putting
the monuments on the map or suggesting images to be used in the lists on
Wikipedia. Of course a lot more is possible!

The list are used by the WLM and a requirement for actually doing it but
these lists shouldn't be part of the project. Most Wikipedia's have the
lists in the main namespace because WLM will pass, but the lists will
stay and will be expanded and improved over time. You should consider
doing the same at your Wikipedia.

Coordinates is not clear to me. At the moment coordinates seem to be
missing for most items? Why do you have the additional field?

What would be the translation of this field?
I added it to the database. The result is 4775 items, full statistics at

Wiki loves monuments
European photo contest runs in more than 10 countries.
Wiki Loves Monuments is a europe-wide photo contest around monuments in
September, organized by Wikimedia, the movement behind Wikipedia.
Wikipedia is the popular free encyclopedia with more than 400 million
visitors per month - collaborativly authored by volunteers.
Cultural heritage is an important part of the knowledge Wikipedia aims
to collect and disseminate. Everybody can contribute, not only in
writing articles, but also with taking pictures. An image tells more
than a thousand words and can be useful in many different languages at
the same time.
Cultural heritage is around the corner - almost everywhere. And
everybody can participate easily by raising awareness of monuments
nearby their home. And even locals can (re-)discover the cultural,
historical or scientific significance of their neighborhood.
Wikipedia volunteer communities in more than 10 countries joined this
initiative enthusiastically and pave the way to make participation as
easy as possible. The contest is inspired by the highly successful 2010
pilot in the Netherlands, resulting in more than 12.500 new images under
a free license, which can be used in Wikipedia and by anybody for any
purpose.
Any support - from a single image in the contest to spreading the word
or becoming a partner - is warmly welcomed. The coming September,
cultural heritage will be in the spotlight of Wikipeda from Portugal to
Estonia.

Hi everyone,
i've added the new Wiki Loves Monuments sites for Germany and Portugal
to the .eu site. I do get an authorization / username&password box on
the Portugese site, maybe it's not online yet?
I really like the German site, very nicely done!
Right now we get around 20 visitors per day.

Here is our newest candidate :
http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:PrizrenStoneBridge.jpg
I have started with a template
http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Template:Wiki_Loves_Monuments_2011_Kosovo…
to be used to tag all the Monuments that are already part of our photo
competition and will be also submitted to the contest.
any comments are welcome, and of course we have to translate it.
