Hello colleagues,
I have resumed work on my video tutorial project for Wikipedia and the
sister sites. I am hoping that eventually there will be video tutorials
and/or interactive tutorials in multiple languages, but for now I am
focusing on producing a small number of videos for English Wikipedia to
test the process and to get feedback from the community. These videos will
be designed for "organic" new users who become active on Wikipedia without
first being involved in a formal program that provides guidance for new
contributors, but I think that the videos may also be useful for formal
Wikimedia program organizers to share with their participants.
A project space is live on Outreach Wiki:
https://outreach.wikimedia.org/wiki/NavWiki. I invite you to look at the
organization of the space and let me know if you have any feedback.
Comments and questions may be left on the project talk page
<https://outreach.wikimedia.org/wiki/Talk:NavWiki>.
I am hoping to publish two videos for English Wikipedia by the end of 2019,
and to collect feedback on them until at least January 2020 before deciding
on significant next steps. If the feedback is positive then then I hope to
produce more videos in the future and/or to adapt the videos for additional
languages.
If you would like to sign up for the project newsletter, you can do that at

Wow, this is a nice one! BHL is a great partner of the Internet Archive
and a precious source for countless Wikipedia articles and Wikimedia pages.

Dear all,
Germany's national public television broadcaster ZDF releases video clips
and photos on climate change and global warming under CC BY 4.0 for the
first time on this website:
https://www.zdf.de/dokumentation/terra-x/terra-x-creative-commons-cc-100.ht…
Though there are things to improve, like adding a CC-button with more info
on correct licensing in each video, this his can be seen as a milestone and
a role model for more content and public service broadcasters like ARD to
open up and share content especially in the fields of news and
documentation.
After all, media under public law are publicly financed and using free
licences would correspond to their mission since they'd make a significant
contribution to the reach of public content.
Feel free to share the news and make them visible on twitter and other
channels.

Greetings everyone,
Our next biweekly LD4 Wikidata Affinity Group call is Tuesday, October 8th at 9am PDT / 12pm EDT / 16:00 UTC / 6pm CEST. Esther Jackson, Public Services Librarian at New York Botanical Garden's LuEsther T. Mertz Library and I will be talking about the Finding GLAMs campaign, which aims to add and improve Wikidata items for GLAM institutions between October 8 and October 29th. We’ll go over how to add items for libraries and museums and look at the Monumental tool<https://tools.wmflabs.org/monumental-glam/#/>, which displays information about cultural heritage monuments. If you haven’t had a chance to add items to Wikidata yet, this could be a great opportunity to get some hands-on experience. I’ll be holding working hours on Zoom and Slack for anyone who wants to work on adding items together and has questions. These will be on Friday, October 11th at 9am PDT / 12pm EDT / 16:00 UTC / 6pm CEST, Tuesday, October 15th at 8am PDT/ 11 am EDT/ 15:00 UTC / 5pm CEST, and Thursday, October 17th at 9am PDT / 12pm EDT / 16:00 UTC / 6pm CEST.
The call details are below. To receive notifications about upcoming calls and meeting notes you can subscribe to the ld4-wikidata Google Group<https://groups.google.com/forum/#!forum/ld4-wikidata>, and if you aren't able to attend, the meetings are recorded and meeting notes available on Google Drive<https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1JwTulCABs0TkGQDVSnYbIYEb7bC-j4-n>.
If you haven't joined one of our calls before, the LD4-Wikidata Affinity Group is associated with the Linked Data for Production project<https://wiki.duraspace.org/pages/viewpage.action?pageId=104568167>. One of the goals of the project is understanding how libraries can contribute to and better integrate library metadata with Wikidata to improve access to library resources on the web. Wikidata offers exciting possibilities for libraries to become a part of the linked data landscape, share and reuse data, and discover new relationships and connections. The Affinity Group calls provide an informal space to share information and learn more about Wikidata.

Dear all,
I am very happy to share the news of Dr. Yale Rosen's donation of images to
Wikimedia Commons. He had shared over 2000 images related to pathology,
many of which are rare images, during his long career as a pathologist. He
used to run two Flickr streams, one for Atlas of Medical Foreign Bodies
<https://www.flickr.com/photos/foreignbodies> and other for pulmonary
pathology <https://www.flickr.com/photos/pulmonary_pathology/> images. I
had first approached Dr. Rosen for donating a few images, but he kindly
offered to donate his entire collection of approximately 2000 images plus
the contents from his pathology website <http://granuloma.homestead.com/> for
use on Wikimedia projects. He had shared several images under CC-BY-SA or
lower in the past, but this month, he moved his two large collections to
CC-BY-SA. All images from Dr. Rosen's Flickr streams are now available on
Wikimedia Commons here
<https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Images_by_Yale_Rosen_MD>.
Please feel free to engage in categorizing, adding structured data and
uptaking these images to Wikimedia projects. The naming and description of
the files are accurate and straightforward, so I think it is possible for
people without specialized knowledge in pathology to perform categorization
and addition of structured data. Kindly write to me if you have any
questions or comments.
Regards
