dear all
i have been working on selecting some images about GLAMwiki events-institutions-projects (and I created a subcategory with a selection of some of the documentation uploaded from Switzerland).
https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Selection_photos_GLAMWiki
i have the feeling images are often needed (for presentations, webpages, leaflets). please help yourself and do not hesitate to add strongly communicative images (i didn't include stand-up group photos because they are fan for us but maybe not so significant for GLAMs).
below some comments and thanks to all the people who made these photos!

(please not that i do not mention photos which are already extensively used on our GLAM webpages)
Extraordinary "Soumaya Editathon 50 hours of art"! Of course I didn't see everything, but please allow me to point out the astonishing (and extremely photogenic) project "Soumaya Editathon 50 hours of art" on the artists and collections that preserves the Soumaya Museum in Mexico. I have the feeling this experience has not been absorbed by our community sufficiently: it is an incredible format and congratulations to the organizers to making it happen (not an easy one) and creating a real visual story. the WMF blog presents the experience[1], but i think the asset of this event is the visual beauty of it we can all benefit from (it really expresses the link between content, community and the concept of a museum opening up to Wikipedia and to all). Some examples:

here the category if you want to see more https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Editatón_Soumaya_Abierto._50_ho…
very convincing this image with the word "wikipedia" on the panel by Christoph Braun https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:QRpedia_Stele,_MHG,_Hamburg,_Deutsc… (bravo!)
very cool the image of Archeowiki project in Italy with many students engaged in the project https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Evento_finale_Archeowiki_05.JPG (i'm a fan of Niccolò Caranti photos - also this one i think it is very strong https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Europeana_Fashion_Editathon_2013_St…)
a good one to show the involvement of wikipedians in taking photos by Adokador https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Wikipedyści_przy_pracy_-_Przykuta_%…
this photo is not perfect but it works well to show the digitalization process (and a herbarium is pretty unusual and fascinating) https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Herbarium_making_of-IMG_6752.jpg
here one which shows how archives are really closed and separated from all of us unless online https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Schweizerische_Nationalbibliothek_-…
I have noticed that the photos of the institutions (the outdoor-building) are not always great. I think a presentation of all the institutions contributing to the Wikimedia projects (just one strong photo of the building from the outside) could be really impressive: you show the outdoor to focus on how the Wikimedia projects allow you to step inside the building (often extremely monumental buildings) and browse/use/disseminate the inside, taking in a determinant way the inside out.

Hi GLAMmers,
A quick note to let you know that the Dutch Museum Catharijneconvent just
donated over 2.500 images to Wikimedia Commons. Their collection consists
of paintings, sculptures, object, textile, etc, all related to christian
history, art and culture.
A big shout out to Husky <https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/User:Husky>
for developing and running the upload-script.
It's a rather unique donation (for as far as I know), they are high res TIF
files, and there often are multiple pictures of details of paintings and
objects. We are curious to see if and how these will be used.
The pictures can be found here
<https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Media_contributed_by_Museum_Cat…>.
I made a sub-category with their top pieces, these can be found here
<https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Items_from_the_Catharinazaal>.
It would be great if these would be put to good use. This museum might
contribute more in the (near) future.
Thanks all!
Best,
Jesse

Hi all,
(Pardon the cross-posting)
Starting today, we want to show Wikimedia some love in a very special way:
talking about diversity! [1]
Diversity in Wikimedia projects is key to achieve our shared vision: that
anyone can contribute in the sum of all knowledge. We know many efforts
have been made to bridge many gaps.
Have you:
* preserved your cultural or national history through photo contests and
editing events?
* worked to enrich a particular language or cultural group on Wikimedia?
* studied diversity issues in online communities?
_What have you learned when trying to encourage diversity on Wikimedia?_
The Learning and Evaluation team invites all community members to share
what they know about bringing diversity on Wikimedia projects. This
initiative seeks to create a body of knowledge around diversity outcomes
for events, projects and programs, in a way to give support to
Grantmaking’s Inspire Campaign (coming up the first week of March). If you
worked to make Wikimedia projects more diverse, in content or community, what
has worked for you? what has not worked? Share what you know with the world!
There are multiple ways to engage:
1. Share a problem
2. Share a solution
3. Endorse problems and solutions to vote them up in importance
4. Writing a Learning Pattern (that addresses any of the problems/solutions
shared)
We will be awarding our brand new L&E Barnstars[2] to contributors during
this special campaign =)
Visit the campaign page [1] to contribute and discuss, and if you are
twitter user, use #ILoveDiversity to promote the campaign for others to
participate.
Happy editing!
