LD4 Conference on Linked Data in Libraries: May 13-14, 2020
Preconference workshops: May 12, 2020
Texas A&M University, College Station, Texas, USA
Proposal form: https://stanforduniversity.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_ebmQF48Gn9bag6x
Submission deadline: Friday, January 31st at 11:59pm PST
Conference website: ld4.io<http://ld4.io>
It is now the time to propose content for the 2020 LD4 Conference! Wiki related proposals are warmly welcome at this library conference!
The conference will be held May 13-14 at Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas, USA with a focus on learning concrete ways that linked data benefits GLAM institutions and discovering pathways to participation in linked data. By bringing together a broad range of perspectives, and centering diversity, equity, inclusion, and ethics in our discussions, we will create a community of practice for linked data in libraries.
Thanks to the generous support of the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, a limited number of stipends at three award levels are available to make participation possible for those who would not otherwise be able to attend:
* Registration fee ($100 US) waived
* Up to $500 US of travel expenses covered plus registration fee ($100 US) waived
* Up to $1250 US of travel expenses covered plus registration fee ($100 US) waived
Stipend applications will be reviewed by the Program Committee and recipients selected based on merit and need.
We are accepting proposals for content in a variety of formats and especially encourage proposals (conference or pre-conference) from participants from groups and regions that are traditionally underrepresented in conferences related to linked data in libraries and other cultural heritage organizations, as well as proposals from early career professionals. Please see the full Call for Proposals<https://sites.google.com/stanford.edu/ld42020/call-for-proposals> for additional details.
The Program Committee will select proposals and contact all applicants by February 21st. For those interested in attending without proposing a session, a separate call for participation will be announced in late February.
For questions about the LD4 Conference, please contact the conference co-chairs at ld4conf_chairs(a)googlegroups.com<mailto:ld4conf_chairs@googlegroups.com>
For more information on the event, please visit the conference web site<http://ld4.io> (ld4.io).

Hi everyone,
Most of you may have already heard about it, Paris
Musées, which regroups 14 heritage sites, has just officially announced
this month the opening of more than 100,000 digitized works on its
collections platform [1], under CC-0 licence.
This is indeed a
significant event for french cultural institutions and open glam because
it is the first Parisian institution, which moreover hosts many
masterpieces, to act such a policy of opening and dissemination of
heritage. The images are offered in High Definition with access via a
dedicated API. This is a real long-term approach, matured over the last
3 years (obviously inspired by international examples including Met art
and Rijksmuseum), because 100,000... Is only a beginning.
In this
project, Wikimedia France has worked and met Paris Musées project
managers during its Glam national meeting [2] in may 2019. We are now
supporting Paris musées, within the framework of a formal partnership,
in the import of images and data to Wikimedia commons and Wikidata and
in training courses on those Wikimedia projects for some of their
cultural agents.
Many of these images and masterpieces, as La Tourgue
in 1835 [3] or Woman with blue eyes, [4] will be obviously used to
illustrate Wikipedia articles. One or more edit-a-thons could be
organised this year. But meanwhile, the first steps are planned for the
first quarter of 2020.
You will find more information, in french for
the moment and i would need some translation help, on the dedicated
article available here:
https://www.wikimedia.fr/2020/01/16/paris-musees-le-choix-determinant-de-lo….
We obviously hope that this case will help disseminate open content
in cultural environments as Musée St Raymond of Toulouse or Archives
nationales de France have used to do for several years.
Available for
more informations and happy to share that great news with you,
Best,
Xavier

To: <open-glam(a)lists.wikimedia.org>
Hi everyone,
The call for applications for the Creative Commons Global Summit are
finally open - you can either apply for a scholarship or submit a
presentation here:
https://creativecommons.org/2020/01/22/cc-global-summit-proposals-and-schol…
.
Deadline for applications is February 12, 2020.
This year (as last year) there's a GLAM track. This year there's a an
invitation to submit proposals that address the topics and issues outlined
in the tracks below *with a focus on actionable insights and outcomes*,
from case studies to workshops and storytelling sessions.
The Open GLAM track invites proposals that address the following:
*Open Galleries, Libraries, Archives, and Museums – Improving and expanding
open access to cultural heritage*
GLAM institutions are a core part of how we understand heritage and
creativity. Open licensing is a key part to make cultural data and content
available in an equitable and accessible way. This track explores Open GLAM
today and discusses how communities active within the open movement can
inspire and inform mindful, high-quality, and sustainable open access to
cultural heritage.
The Summit will take place 14-16 May 2020, in Lisbon, Portugal. More
information here: https://summit.creativecommons.org/
See you in Lisbon!

(short) report about it for the newsletter 'This Month in GLAM' so that the
worldwide and local Wikimedia community can read what happened in your
area. Also this will encourage others to participate and donate material.
You can start writing here:
http://outreach.wikimedia.org/wiki/GLAM/Newsletter/Newsroom
If your country/area isn't mentioned on the page, you can always add it to:
http://outreach.wikimedia.org/wiki/GLAM/Newsletter/December_2019/Contents
Please mention also the (coming) GLAM activities on our calendar on:
http://outreach.wikimedia.org/wiki/GLAM/Calendar/January_2020
Deadline: 10 January
If anyone needs help/explanation about the newsletter, please ask!
Thanks & greetings!
