Dear Colleagues,
we are very proud to present to you another addition to the learning
pattern library. This time, the WMDE GLAM team wrote about ways to
establish a successful GLAM partnerships. The learning pattern contains a
useful checklist with tips on what to watch out for and what to avoid when
beginning to form a partnership with a GLAM institution. It's already
published in both English and German.
We are curious to read your feed back and would like you to share your
experience. Leave a post on the talk page.

Hi all,
This event may be of interest for any institution wanting to learn about
working with Wikipedia - particularly those based in Scotland.
*Course Overview*
Open knowledge is a way to engage new audiences, and even potential new
income streams. Wikipedia, one of the most popular websites in the world,
is part of the open knowledge community, publishing free information that
anyone can use, edit, and distribute.
With English language Wikipedia alone hitting 8 million views per hour,
there is a huge potential audience hungry for information. And Wikipedia
wants more cultural institutions to get involved.
This session will look at how other organisations, including the British
Museum and the National Library of Scotland, have positively benefited from
working with Wikipedia, and give examples of the different kinds of
projects which are possible. We’ll explore the different ways in which the
Wikimedian in Residence can get involved with your organisation, including
further training and events.
This half day morning course can be paired with our afternoon session
‘Introduction to Editing Wikipedia for Cultural Sector Professionals’, or
taken alone. If booking both sessions, lunch will be provided.
*Learning Objectives*
By the end of this course you should be able to better understand the ways
and benefits of working with Wikipedia partners and appreciate the benefits
of open knowledge in a museums and galleries context.

Subject: Upcoming press release to celebrate 5 million articles on English
Wikipedia
Dear colleagues,
Aligned with discussions at the Wikimedia Conference about coordinating
press releases around the world, I would like to invite you to participate
in the drafting and upcoming publication of a community-written press
release that celebrates English Wikipedia's milestone of 5 million
articles. I particularly extend this invitation to affiliates which are
located in areas where English (in any dialect) is a primary, official, or
common language.
Drafting and discussion are happening here:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Village_pump_%28miscellaneous%29#5_…
Please ask your affiliates to participate in a near-simultaneous press
release from interested affiliates and WMF on the day that English
Wikipedia reaches 5 million articles.
Please make sure that your affiliate's contact information is current on
Meta so that it can be included in the press release. Journalists may wish
to speak with representatives of your organization about the press release
and about Wikipedia in general.
This event offers and opportunity to raise public awareness of Wikipedia in
general and our many accomplishments, as well as the many challenges and
opportunities ahead of us to make English Wikipedia in particular be more
accurate, friendly, inclusive, accessible, reputable, and comprehensive.
Regards,
Pine
Hi Jason!
That´s right, the museums own the copyright of the images, so
shouldn´t be problem uploading the images, only with an OTRS
permission to make it clear in Commons.
Cheers

Hello everyone!
>From yesterday until January 7, 2016, Wikimedia Spain enters three
state museums, the Museum of Romanticism, the Museo del Traje (Costume
Museum) and the National Archaeological Museum, where I´ll work as
wikipedian in residence.
Besides promoting the Wikimedia projects in the three institutions, it
will be carried out various activities open to the public, like
edit-a-thons and training sessions, aimed to explain how Wikipedia
works and generate content related to the museums and their
collections: the nineteenth century in Spain, fashion, ethnography and
archeology. Another highlight will be the donation of multimedia files
(documents, pictures or recordings) under a free license to Wikimedia
Commons, in order to illustrate contents of the various Wikimedia
projects.
The Museum of Romanticism has cataloged more than 16,000 museum
pieces. It offers collections of paintings, miniatures, furniture,
decorative arts, prints, drawings and photographs collections, which
offer a broad panorama of the arts during the Romantic era in Spain.
The Costume Museum has collections dedicated to fashion, costumes and
ethnography, with a collection of over 170,000 pieces and documents;
these collections date from the Middle Ages to the contemporary
fashion of Spain. The National Archaeological Museum is, since 1867,
the leading Spanish institution in the preservation of historical
pieces. Its permanent collection includes over 15,000 items from
Prehistory, Early history, Roman Spain, Greece, Egypt and the Near
East, Middle Ages and Modern Age.
In relation to the uploading of files to Wikimedia Commons, what tool
do you recommend me to use? (their files are not in public domain).
Best,
