Dear All - tomorrow I am doing open-air introduction to wikimedia on the ruin that is a modernist architectural heritage in Dalmatia. I think it was featured in MOMA’s Concrete Utopia exhibition (on Socialist Yugoslavia)... ...anyway I am interested if you have to recommend anything specific to adress that is super relevant for architects, researchers or people fighting gentrification and protecting modernist buildings? Maybe there were similar projects? Tools serving 3D or 2D multi-layered vector content in Wikimedia? Tips on something else? Categories? Best Z

GLAM-wiki contractor opportunity at Wikimedia Foundation

Hello, The Wikimedia Foundation <https://wikimediafoundation.org/> is looking for a part-time temporary contractor to work remotely for 20 hours a week from August or September until June 2021. The contractor will support movement allies, affiliates, and organizers interested in bringing high impact collections to Wikimedia projects. The hourly rate is up to $55 (USD). We’d like you to do these things: - Mentor a cohort of cultural institutions making large content contributions to develop shared practices for Structured Data on Commons, particularly for captions and copyright statements. - Take part in monthly office hours for the wider Wikimedia-GLAM community. - Analyze and document innovations and workflows, in order to inform and inspire Wikimedia communities and staff. - Actively monitor communications to support the Wikimedia-GLAM community to stay in touch, network, document, and exchange practices. - Facilitate information sharing and product alignment with volunteers maintaining software for GLAM-Wiki projects, such as OpenRefine, pywikibot, and Pattypan. We’re looking for someone with these skills: - A practical understanding of using linked open data and broad open platforms for sharing collections, including active use of Wikidata and/or Wikimedia Commons. - Comfortable wrangling data with some experience scripting and using command line tools. - A good track record of promoting digital skills development or shared practices through social media, written case studies, conference presentations, and/or workshop facilitation. - Comfort working with product teams and supporting products in an open, networked ecosystem, through documentation and community consultation. - Experience working with a distributed and remote team with people of diverse skill sets and backgrounds. - Strong written and spoken English. And it would be even more awesome if you have: - Proficiency in languages other than English. - An existing network of collaborators and contacts in international open knowledge, cultural heritage communities, or in the Wikimedia community. - Experience working with communities that are not based in Europe or North America. Call for Participation--Program for Cooperative Cataloging Wikidata Pilot

Greetings everyone, The PCC<https://www.loc.gov/aba/pcc/>, an international cooperative cataloging effort for library collections, is launching a Wikidata Pilot to further advance the movement toward identity management. Stated broadly in its Strategic Directions document, the PCC hopes to “Accelerate the movement toward ubiquitous identifier creation and identity management at the network level … attain an environment where identity management work activity is characterized by much greater proportions and numbers of entities receiving identifiers … strategic partnerships and collaboration existing among cultural heritage organizations, rights management agencies, Wikidata, and others … collaborate with other identity management communities to facilitate and promote the use of unique identifiers.” More specifically, this Pilot is anticipated to involve • Comparing ease of use and benefits of Wikidata to other registries (LCNAF, ISNI) • Assessing the productivity and quality assurance tools that exist (or should exist) • Learning about the culture of the Wikidata community The upcoming Pilot was featured in the LD4 Wikidata Affinity Group meeting of June 16 and more background information and discussion can be found in the presentation recording<https://stanford.zoom.us/rec/share/_eAtNuzb_HNLcK_97GzcBJ95MN2-T6a8hHRI-PYO…>, slides<https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1NpkAQdGGft1Wi2vX0zgMtIxwXWjPq96NtXx…>, and notes<https://docs.google.com/document/d/1z1SSAp4c4tftOGW3BbJ6Fxfd8oRIhfzveh0zjeb…>. Initial expressions of interest by the end of July will allow the Pilot to get underway with a kick off meeting in early August. We will solicit firm commitments for ongoing participation at a later date. The pilot is anticipated to last about 12 months.
