(Due to my laziness in not wanting to type the email address, this got sent as a reply to another thread before)
There seems to be problems with image loss again.
At least 12 from enwiki recently reported in http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Missing_images_for_speedy_deletion
Though I found out a few minutes later that there is already a list of missing images at http://noc.wikimedia.org/~tstarling/image-check/2008-10-10.

I have at least some files with these names (the list does not provide the expected hashes, so I'm not sure if I have the exact files).
I'd like to know when Wikimedia is going to have working internal backups again, and when images can be pushed to some third party (such as myself) once more, so that future data loss can be avoided.

The new servers have arrived and are being installed. There are two media servers, ms1 and ms2. ms1 is master, ms2 is slave. We use ZFS send and receive to copy the data from ms1 to ms2. There are different levels of snapshots (minutely, hourly, daily, weekly, monthly) that can be used to restore files. We're still having problems with making the directories readable on ms2. zfs receive unmounts the filesystem, and it fails, if it fails to unoumnt the filesystem. Queueing the updates for a day and unmounting the filesystem once every 24h to import the filesystem might be a suitable way to provide an rsync service.
The following wikipedias have already been migrated to the new server:
